Hail to the Redskins's Blog

Changes, for the Skins (and me personally)

I'm really not up to this, to tell you the truth. While I'm still trying to process the fact I've lost my dad, and still on my sabbatical from FN, I figured the news of yesterday warranted a couple of lines on here.

After all, training camp is open for the Skins in preparation for the Hall of Fame game a week from Saturday.

So, Jason Taylor decides to bring "Dancing with the Stars" to Washington. (Or is that "Dancing on the Stars"??? LMAO) Anyway, the move had to be made, what with Phillip Daniels done for the year...or his career, if one is to believe Mike Wise's column. Still, it's good that the front office moved swiftly on this.

I'd like to thank the academy for this award...

My newfound respect across FanNation continues. I've now been afforded the opportunity to write on here, after...what, 7 months or so since I joined?? Hey, I'm not complaining, mind you.

I just wish they'd done this BEFORE I went out and created my "Radio Free Ashburn" blog...which, BTW, I ain't giving up.

But anyway, on to the draft. Or more importantly, how the Redskins did in the draft. Which is to say, surprises abound.

An Itty-Bitty Prodigy of Speed

This legend has bragging rights to a record for an interception in 19 straight seasons when the average NFL career ends in 8-9 years. With the speed of a human bullet, he outran and out sped his fellow teammates at age 40, clocking in at 4.2 seconds for the 40 yard dash. Although he made a name for himself for being a star cornerback, he was also a celebrated punt returner, averaging for 12 yards per return. All you Bronco fans out there- you've got this man to thank for Champ Bailey's amazing skills as a cornerback because he helped mold Bailey into a likeness of himself. As a rookie, he had enough guts, stamina and incredible speed to chase down the world class and invincible sprinter Tony Dorsett out in the open field. Voted into the Pro Bowl 7 times, he was also the fastest man in the NFL for about a decade.

I dont even know anymore, You tell me

As I watched the Superbowl with much disdain Sunday night, I realized why Dan Snyder was in no hurry to name a head coach. It became readily apparent to me as Spagnoulo got more airtime play then a defensive coordinator in NFL history, that this man was what Snyder was waiting for.

After a full day interview fallowing a 90 minute phone call, this would seem to be the case. Is Spagoulo the guy? Is he experienced enough? Does his style fit the personnel?

Excuse me....Mr. Snyder

Excuse me Mr. Snyder, but I'm a bit confused. As Joe Gibbs said himself during his surprise farewell press conference, a man like yourself is truly remarkable. You're a self made billionaire before the age of 40. You run, buy, and sell businesses. You are the pinnacle of success and possibilities in American life. You even have Tom Cruise eating out of your hand.

So why then Mr. Snyder, is your football franchise so ungodly disorganized? Aren't businesses built on the development and advancement of quality personnel? Doesn't a business, in order to succeed, need an overall vision, a guiding a light, a ‘game plan' for the future?
