OH HAPPY DAY!! PHILLIES WIN 5-3 AGAINST THE REDS!!

Oh Happy Day!!!

The Philadelphia Phillies gave Cole Hamels his first win of the season, and Brad Lidge got his first save as the Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds at Cincy today 5-3 to take a split of the 4 game series 2-2. It was a great series with the Phils taking the first and last, and the Reds taking the two in between.Today the Phillies scored 3 runs in the first by a leadoff HR by none other than JIMMY ROLLINS! Than Pat Burell (2 HR in the game) and Jenkins hit them back to back in the first as well, to take a 3-0 lead.

OH HAPPY DAY!!! PHILLIES WIN!!!!! 8-7 in 10 innings!!!!

OH HAPPY DAY!

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 8-7 after a 10 inning offensive slugfest at Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia. Just last night, Cole Hamels and Tim Redding combined to give up 5 hits, and 1 run. Today both pitching staffs combined for 30 hits and 15 runs!!! Moyer had a 5 run first inning, and the Phils answered back by hitting 6 in the 6th, only to have the game knotted up at 7 all going into the 10th. Then Jesus Colome allowed Jimmy Rollins to get to third with only 1 out. Intentionally loading the bases by putting Utley and Howard on, Jayson Werth came up, and got walked on 4 pitches!!! WALK OFF WALK TO JAYSON WERTH!!! JIMMY ROLLINS COMES IN TO SCORE!!! THE FANS AREN'T THROWING HOT DOGS AND BEER BOTTLES!!! OH HAPPY DAY!!!

The Phillies Season Preview! w/ Anthony E.!!!!!

MLB Nation, and all baseball fans on FanNation,

This year the Phillies will have arguably the best infield in the NL with Ryan Howard at first, Chase Utley my MVP pick at second, the reigning MVP Jimmy Rollins at SS, and an average offensive, but one of the best at the defense of the hot corner, Pedro Feliz at third. A decent pitching staff with two or three studs in the starting rotation (Cole Hamels, Brett Myers, Kyle Kendrick) and a decent bullpen with two studs as well (Romero, Madson, Lidge {if he is healthy}). A speedy outfield with Victorino and Jenkins, and Werth on occasion will combine with Burrell on offense (if he keeps his momentum from last year) and this outfield is pretty decent. Ruiz at catcher, and the bench? DECENT! That seems to be the magic word for everything but the infield. Well that's the truth. Even last year with a career year from J-Roll the MVP, an off year for Howard (47 HR, 136 RBI), and a near MVP season by Utley cut by injury (.332 AVG, 22 HR, 103 RBI, 104 R, .410 OBP, .566 SLG), and a late season surge by Burrell (30 HR, 97 RBI), plus stunning defensive play from everyone, this team still needed a late season choke by the Mets to win the division on the last day by ONE GAME! That means decent just won't cut it this year. I have the Phillies at the Wild Card spot. But I would rather prefer the NL EAST TITLE defense obviously. But so it goes. So will the Phillies repeat? Or will a bad spring like they always have, hobble them to Wild Card contention, or just plain sucking? All I can say, is this is the year to build off our experiences from last year, and take home the WS Title. Easier said then done, but I think they are capable. Monday at 3:05 EST time is first pitch from Citizens Bank Park in Philly against the Nationals. Will it be the start of a NL East title defense, a Wild Card season, or just the perfect season to add to that 10,000+ loss total? We shall see...

Pedro or Greg?

Pedro or Greg?

Matt Imbrogno

March 2008

Who do you take-Pedro Martinez or Greg Maddux? These two men were two of the best pitchers of the 1990s and are sure shots for the Hall of Fame. Despite that similarity, one would think there are hardly two pitchers more different. Pedro Martinez is a fire-balling, intimidating, dominant, and downright scary pitcher. Greg Maddux was the "thinking man's" pitcher. He was dominant in a different way. While Pedro could make you look silly with his speed, Greg could do the same with his accuracy.

Ryan Howard Wins In Arbitration Hearing!

MLB Nation,

The Philadelphia Phillies and Ryan Howard went to their arbitration hearing on Wednesday prepared for a drawn out battle.  Howard wanted 10 Million, while the Phillies wanted to settle for 7 Million, and Philly being the franchise it has always been with it's underpaying and then letting good talent go.  So Agent Casey Close argued for Howard, Tal Smith president of the Houston Astros argued for the Phillies. And after five hours in St. Petersburg, the panel of arbitrators Stephen Goldberg, Robert Bailey and Jack Clarke decided that Howard deserved his bid for his money and what do you know the Phillies have to pay up.  My opinion on this you ask?? Well I'll tell you my opinion... THANK THE LORD!!! YES!!!! YAY!!! HOORAY!  Ryan Howard is one of the better power hitters in the game, and between his NL MVP award in 06 and his recordsetting climb in the homerun ranks at such a young age, he is part of a crucial trio of infielders (Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins) that have sparked that team to new heights including this year's division title and the playoff berth.  So for Heaven's sake pay the guy his money! I mean before this he was only getting $900,000.  That's less than Adam Eaton. Yeah....good thing he won that hearing. By the way, before this hearing, the Philadelphia Phillies were 7-0 all time in these cases. That's pretty good...so go Phillies, and even if arbitration forced you to make the right choice, what's important is that the right choice was made.
