April 16th 2007: Never forget

Today marks the 1 year aniversary of the most fatal school shooting in US history at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia. 32 people died 1 year ago at the hands of 1 serial killer who was deemed mentally unstable. Today is about remembering those 32 people but also the story of how as a university the community came together as a family. Virginia Tech couldn't see this coming. Virginia Tech is a peaceful school that no one ever could believe this would happen too. It did happen though. People grew through this adversity. The student body became a family. People who don't even know each other are connected through this event. We Are Virginia Tech has become the new slogan of the school. It fits perfectly for them. This is one case a large group of people can use we. This school lost 32 students and professors. They banded together and made improvements to the school so this would never happen again. They opened up new mental health programs, they insituted the most technologically advanced messaging system so people would be notified quicker if this tragically ever happpened again. Sports also helped them get through this event. Before the very first football game of the year against Eastern Carolina they had a moment of silence. As ESPN cameras swept across Lane Stadium tears rolled down many faces. A tribute was played next and every person there that was crying was being consoled by someone near. The University became a family. The game went on and you could see smiles all around. Virginia Tech Football is always good but last eyar was so special too so may people. That forst game at Lane will never be replicated again in the minds of VT football fans. As one myself that game is the single most important game in VT football history.

MLB Season Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

This is the 4th of 30 MLB season previews. The Dodgers finished a dissappointing 82-80 which was good for 4th in the NL West. This year the Dodgers improved their team by signing CF Andruw Jones, Japanese pitcher Hiroshi Kuroda, and backup C Gary Bennett. They lost P Randy Wolf backup catcher Mike Liberthal to retirement, and backup IF Ramon Martinez. Look for the Dodgers to bounce back playing in Dodgertown for the last time ever this spring.

MLB Season Preview: The Colorado Rockies

This is the 3rd of a 30 part series previewing this years MLB season

Last year the Rockies went on a tear to end the season winnning 21 of 22 before being swept in the World Series by the Boston Red Sox. To get into the playoffs they won a one game playoff against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field. The Rockies however lost some critical part of their team last year in 2B Kaz Matsui, UT man Jamey Carroll, and 2 solid RP in Latroy Hawkins and Denny Bautista. To fill those wholes however the Rockies brought in 2B Marcus Giles, P Luis Vizcaino, and P Jose Capellan.
