The Daily Hangover(7/21/08)

Here we go again. Remember, this is only a weekday thing, I will not be doing it on the weekends. Thanks for all the fanmail requests about topics to be discussed, please continue to do this. Let's get to work.

MLB

Huge series in the NL East this week. Tied at the top are the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets. The key is, the Marlins are only a half game out of both of these teams. The three-game series starts tomorrow night. This is the tightest division in baseball, and if Florida plays their cards right and gets lucky, they could be sitting atop the NL East in a week. In my opinion, the Mets get the better of the series and the NL East title. In terms of roster, New York is superior. Plus they have major momentum right now. Billy Wagner doesn't need an MRI on his left shoulder, reports say. The Mets closer has been huge in New York's comeback in the division. The Angels have swept the Red Sox, showing why they have the best record in the MLB. The L.A. Dodgers tied the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West with a win in Arizona. The final score was 5-1.

The Daily Hangover(7/18/08)

Welcome everyone. This is the 3rd edition of The Daily Hangover. Thank you for all the fanmail requests, I will be sure to get to each topic. Let's get to it.

Joe Blanton is now in the Phillies rotation. Finally, they have help at pitcher. Adam Eaton has been horrible, with an ERA of 5.71. Philadelphia has given him a 3-year contract. Remember, this is a quick-fix, not a long-term solution. Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman, and Matt Spencer are headed for the A's in return(all are minor-leaguers). The Yankees have reached an agreement with slugger Richie Sexson, who was released by the Seattle Mariners a week ago. He is a great addition to New York because he can counter left-handed pitchers. Against lefties this year, he has a .344 batting average with 5 homers. The Mets have won 10 straight, after beating the Reds in 10 innings last night. The final score was 10-8. New York's biggest comeback of the season was sparked by a 2-run homer in the 9th by David Wright. The Mets are now tied for first in the NL East. What an amazing turn-around for the other New York team.

The Daily Hangover(7/17/08)

Here we are again. The 2nd edition of this blog. Let's get right to it.

MLB

The All-Star game is now behind us, and it is time to look forward to the 2nd half of the season. The big question on everyone's mind is what the Tampa Bay Rays will do after starting off so hot and then dropping their last 7 before the All-Star break. The Yankees are in the rear-view mirror, only behind 5 and a half games. I think the Rays will start to feel the pressure, but it is hard to tell how they will react. It is clear that the Rays need a big-time player, so they need to search the market. Evan Longoria doesn't count as a big-time player. Tampa Bay looks primed to win over 70 games this season, which the franchise has failed to do in their 10-year history. It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox will fair once David Ortiz returns on July 25 after a 6-week absence due to a wrist injury. Philadelphia has some major holes to fill, mostly at pitcher, but they still lead the NL East. Brett Myers is gone and Adam Eaton has a horrible ERA, with 5.71. The Angels will be interested in Matt Holliday and Mark Teixera. Keep on eye on those two, because one will most likely be with the Angels before the year is out. Other names that could be on the move; Joe Blanton, Alan Embree, Brian Fuentes, Tim Redding, Kevin Millar, A.J. Burnett, and Adam Dunn are among the big ones.

MLB

What a night for baseball fans! The game that went into 2 o'clock in the morning and went through 15 innings before the American League won again- 4 to 3. Morneau, the homerun derby winner, provided the winning slide. Thankfully, this one didn't end in a tie. The 2008 All-Star game gave us what we finally wanted, a game to remember. Terry Francona used up all his pitchers! Dan Uggla had probably the worst All-Star game history with 3 errors and 3 strike-outs. 49 Hall of Famers were honored at the game, and the great Yogi Berra made an appearance in the press box. J.D. Drew, who was walked near the end of the game by Lidge, was the All-Star game MVP. Bad news for the National League, who have lost the last 12 All-Star games. It's hard to believe they didn't win. They let it slip through their fingers. They blew a 2-0 lead in the 7th, only to get it back in the 8th to blow it again? Nate Mclough's outfield throw to stop the winning run impressed me a lot. This kid is a Pittsburgh Pirate who came off the bench! Yesterday's, and this morning's for that matter, game was a classic. Thank you baseball for giving us something to cheer about.

The Daily Hangover

I am going to start doing this blog daily, every morning. Here is the idea:

I will spend a short time talking about the top 3 sports- Football, Baseball, Basketball.

All the readers can fanmail me what they want to be discussed, and I will get to it in each section. For instance, if you asked me about my take on Brett Favre's situation, I would put my opinion in the football section of the blog.

In this way, I can talk about what the fans want to hear. I hope to start this tomorrow morning, so please fanmail away!
