Radio Free Ashburn's Blog

The further misadventures of "Prima Danna"

That's not a typo, gang. It seems Yard Yoder has given Snyder his new nom de plume, in his blog on the HTTR site. I've fallen in love with it so much, I've already used it on the ExtremeSkins boards. (Don't worry, Yoder. I'm gonna make you famous because of this. Trust me.)

     Now, to our topic...

If by some chance anyone will be at the game tonight (@ FedEx), could you let us know how the "new" format of getting to games works out?? This is gonna be tantamount to rooting for the iceberg to hit the Titanic, to be honest.

Did Favre do it "his" way, or the Packers' way??

"And now, the end is near,

and so I face...the final curtain..."

Paul Anka put those words to a French song over 40 years ago, and then saw Sinatra and Elvis make it a hit for both of them.

It so fits Brett Favre right now...for the wrong reasons.

Pro football's long-running soap opera, "As the Favre Turns", apparently has come to an end. Now, it's "Brett and the Jets"...but I'm thinking the old Four Tops song is more appropriate:

"Now it's the same old song,

but with a different meaning since you've been gone..."

I mean, did anyone really win?? Can any of you honestly say that there's a "winner" in all of this?? Can you??

I'd love to hear J. Hova's take on this, to be honest. But, I wouldn't be doing FanNation a public service if I didn't caution "the man from BK" on this. If any Jets fan thinks Brett Favre is gonna lead you to the promised land...think again.

Think Johnny Unitas in a Chargers uniform...or Jerry Rice in a Seahawks uniform...or even Michael Jordan in a Wizards jersey. It ain't natural. It's not how you want to remember them. Seeing Brett Favre wearing a Jets hat, as he boarded the private plane in Mississippi...is the stench in your mouth starting to get to you??

Maybe I'm just jaded. I took Brett at his word back in March, when he said he was done with football. So did the rest of you. Yet, we've been lied to yet again by a public person.

But this time, it offends me. No matter how anyone tries to spin this, it's like spraying Lysol on a turd. You might get rid of the stench, but the turd's still there. Or better still, like pouring chocolate on a turd and calling it a Snickers bar...once you bite into it, you realize it ain't a Snickers bar.

Tell me I'm lying on that...not that I've ever done that, mind you.

Anyway, I'm all out of things to say. Dammit, no barf bag around here...and God, do I need one right about now!!!

To get a jump on the NFL Network, as it were

This being Hall of Fame week (and does it not make Redskin fans happy???), I'm sure we'll run across blogs this week about how this guy shouldn't be in or that guy oughta be in, blah, blah, blah...

Well, anyway, the NFL Network tonight (Tuesday) runs their "Top 10" show @ 8 Eastern on that very topic. Specifically, the "Top 10 players who should be in the HOF". While I can't come up with 10, I can give a list of those who I feel should be worthy of being in Canton. So, here goes...

1) Harold Carmichael

Yeah, I know. A Redskins fan, touting an Eagle for the HOF?? I'll stand here and say it: study those old NFL Films of him and Pat Fischer, and tell me I'm wrong. Those weren't battles those two had; those were wars!!! And here's the deal, too: Carmichael held the mark for catching at least 1 pass in (I believe) 130-some games...before Art Monk or Jerry Rice got around to bettering that mark. Yet, it seems the Philly crowd is silent on this. Hmmmmm...

2) Tom Jackson

OK, so it's in the hands of the Veterans' Committee now. But still, the man was an important part of the "Orange Crush" defense of the Broncos back in the day (meaning the '70s and '80s). Again, just as in the previous case, I find it puzzling Denver fans aren't screaming bloody murder about this. You've taken it for granted that just because he's a "talking head" for ESPN, that's enough to plead the case for him. Don't work that way, kiddies.

Well, that's all I could come up with at the moment. Since I'm writing a blog this week on the "HTTR" site on Art and Darrell, I deliberately left off more than a few Skins worthy of HOF inclusion on this one.

I may have missed some you all thought of, so that's why there's a comments section. Let the debate begin...

All right, Gil, keep YOUR word on re-signing

I may set a record with this blog. This is gonna be short and to the point.

OK, so Antawn Jamison re-upped with the Wizards for $50 mil. Now it's up to Agent Zero to make good on his word. Gil, you were the one who said "Take care of Antawn, then me".

They've offered you $100 million, Gil. My advice to you?? Take the fricking money!!! Or is this more b.s. from you??

Comcast WANTS to control the (college) world

I get the Sporting News in the mail today, and towards the end (in the college football page) I read this story on the Big Ten Network. It's about how Comcast, which serves me here in the Shenandoah Valley, agreed to carry the BTN...for a fee. Meaning, if you want to see the BTN, you have to pay extra each month--which is what I do to get the NFL Network.

Ah, but the story doesn't end there. In the article, it says that Comcast reserves the right to take the BTN to digital cable after basketball season ends in March. Again, this is what I did when Comcast took the NFL Network off the regular digital package the 1st of the year and put it (as well as CBS College Sports, Fuel, Fox College Sports-Atlantic/Central/Pacific and others) on a sports tier. That's why I pay $6 more every month than I had been before.
