NO TOUCH-GAY FANS-WOOD...

No touch icing is back in the news again due to a serious injury suffered by a player racing for the puck. The debate rages from both sides of the red line from hockey purists and hockey pacifists alike. Surprisingly, this debate fails to make it to the annual general managers agenda each year. Personally, I like to see these guys open up and skate like the wind, but I have a problem with a small guy like Koivu beating a giant like Chara and knowing it could end the formers career. Wouldn't it be a simple thing to still have the race but eliminate the subsequent hit? That way you can still have the puck races and instill some respect between the players.

13 TIMES OVER and OUT!

The recent article "Mats Sundin and the number 13" posted by The bike lady, is indeed interesting. (please read)

However, my mathematical friend stopped short of revealing how significant this number is to the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs and their ultimate demise this season. I hope that you will find these facts and figures both amusing and enlightening even if your aren't a "Triskaidekaphile" (a fan of the number 13), which by the way, I no longer am referring of course to the player.

NHL Playoff format is passe

The current playoff format in the NHL is passe and rewards failure.

I agree that the first place club of each division should have an opportunity to play in the post season but not seeded 1,2 and 3. Do the Carolina Hurricanes or possibly the challenging Washinton Capitals deserve to to take home ice advantage and be seeded ahead of a team currently behind them but with superiour points?

Case in point, did the Paul Maurice coached Hurricanes earn a right to compete for the Stanley cup a few years ago while superior teams eliminated each other from the process? Were the fans and media provided with the best possible scenerios to be entertained or spotlight the sport not to mention the advertisers to see the best teams compete? Based on the subsequent seasons and Maurice's squad unable to make it to the post season I think not. However, it did provide an abberation on Maurice's resume to provide MSLG with false hope when they hired him in Toronto. Too bad they didn't check his resume more closely...what is it, failed to make the post season 7 out of 9 times....and after this year...But I digress.

Sundin,Leafs,Dumb and dumber...

Mats really should go and have his egg examined!

Seriously, can anyone really explain how this is not one of the most selfish moves ever predicated in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Mats is single. No family ties to the city and at 38 years old contemplating retirement again next season. So what, we have to sit through another summer of him deciding if he will sign again with Toronto up until the last minute? Perhaps there is something in that he prefers the "climate" of the Toronto scene for some reason.

Richard Peddie is an absolute genius!

Here's why.

Toronto is without question the hockey capital of the world.

The team has not had a Stanley cup since 1967 when there was only the original six.

There are now 30 teams in the NHL and the closest appearance in the final was ended when Wayne Greztky slashed the face off Doug Gilmore and not penalized for it. The exhausted L.A Kings went on that year to meet the overly fortunate Montreal Canadians and lost.
