YNWA Update: Things Looking Grim

Liverpool and Celtic are both in some sticky situations in the closing stages of the 07-08 season, and things are looking grim for both clubs.

Liverpool, though still in the Champions League, gave up a shocking own goal and finished with a 1-1 draw against English rivals Chelsea in the Champions League Semifinal.

John Arne Riise, who came on early for the injuried Fabio Aurelio, accidentally headed in Chelsea's Salomon Kalou's cross into the goal in the 94th minute. Chelsea now hold an away goals advantage and Liverpool will have a mountain to climb next Wednesday in the 2nd leg at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool's Euro Dreams Live On

Though Celtic may be out of the competition, our other YNWA club, Liverpool, is still fighting hard as ever for a place atop Europe's Elite throne as winner of the Champions League.

After their loss in the final to AC Milan, Liverpool look to be out with a vengence, and as of late their level of play has been uncomparable. In the final 16 matchup, Liverpool defeated Serie A leader Inter Milan, fairly easily I might add, finally proving to the world that they are still a team to be feared.

Three-peat Dreams Turn to Nightmare: Celtic Eliminated 1-0

I've entered my post from Celtic FC Supporters Group here as well. Enjoy.

Yes, soccer fans. You read the title correctly. Celtic have now made their exit from the Scottish Cup after a 1-0 loss to Aberdeen.

Celtic controlled most of the game and held most of the possesion, but Aberdeen's defenders played at their best. The Bhoys powered groups of shots at Aberdeens goal and had the Dons on their heels from the very beginning. The attacking began less than a minute in when Massimo Donati took a shot from over 25 yards away, quickly followed by a close header from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink that only missed by inches and instead deflected over the bar.

Celtic game Postponed; Liverpool Come From Behind to Win

Celtic's game against Motherwell set for today was postponed after heavy rain made the pitch at Fir Park unplayable. It's the 3rd time Celtic and Motherwell's match has been postponed since the tragic death of Motherwell's Phil O'Donell in December. A new date hasn't been set yet, but Celtic's next game is Celtic's quarterfinal Scottish Cup replay on Tuesday against Aberdeen, who they tied 1-1 at Pittodrie in the first quarterfinal game. Celtic capped off a great save in that game, with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink keeping them in the Scottish Cup after scoring in the 90th minute. I'll deliver a match report then.

YNWA Update: March 12th

One side is rejoicing over a well earned trip to the quarterfinals in the Champions League. The other is groaning after dropping two very important points to a team 19 points behind them in the table.

Mhm, just when everyone began to count Liverpool out after a lackluster Champions League Group Stage showing, they've beaten Inter Milan, previously one of the favorites to win, at Anfield 2-0 AND on Tuesday at San Siro in the 2nd leg 1-0.

People were amazed after Liverpool's amazing victory after the 1st leg, but even with a 2-0 padding, people were still doubting Liverpool of progressing. After all, Inter have only lost 1 game all season in Serie A and have scoring threats like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luis Figo and Julio Cruz makes them one of the most dangerous attacking teams in the world. That and the game would be held in San Siro, Inter's home stadium, which they have turned into a fortress this year made the draw an entertaining one.
