WNBA 2008 Season Preview: Atlanta Dream and Chicago Sky

The 2008 WNBA season is tipping off Saturday, with the Los Angeles Sparks taking on the Phoenix Mercury. Before that, I will break down each team for the beginning of the season.

Atlanta Dream:

Projected Starters:

C - Katie Feenstra

PF - Kristen Mann

SF - Iziane Castro Marques

SG - Betty Lennox

PG - Ivory Latta

Head Coach: Marynell Meadors

Description:

This Atlanta Dream team has the element of surprise working with them considering they are a expansion team. Most expansion teams struggle in their first few seasons in the WNBA, but that isn't the case here. They have enough talent to go around with Kristin Haynie, Ivory Latta, Betty Lennox, and rookie Tamera Young, who they selected in the first round of the draft. They have both potential combined with talent and veteran leadership. Castro Marques and Lennox are the players that can control where this team is headed this season. A fan-favorite in Atlanta will be Ivory Latta, who will receive more playing time than before. Don't expect the Dream to succeed this regular season, but with the development of their young players, they could potentially be a good team when all their players develop into fine WNBA players. The problem with them is that they haven't worked with each other for an extend period of time and so their chemistry isn't fully developed as a team.
