FN Magazine's Blog

To close one chapter of my FN life...

You come to a fork in the road, and decide which way to go. Do you continue to bang your head against a wall, or simply give up the ghost??

     I've chosen the latter.

Therefore, I've decided to discontinue the "True Media Stories" series here in FN Magazine. The last couple of them haven't met with the response I'd like (read: fewer comments), but that's not why I'm ending them.

Chase's Rants Vol.3 Ft: The LPGA

In case you havent heard the news the LPGA, or Ladies Professional Golf Association has announced that it will suspend memberships if foreign golfers refuse to learn English.

No here comes the debate:

Is this racism, or just a policy decision used by many major corporations?

Well in this context I think this is racism.

As you may have noticed in most American sports there is a large foreign contingent that cannot speak much English, most teams comply to their needs and find an interpreter.

Chase's Rants Vol.2: Ft Jericho Scott

In case you haven't been around SI.com lately I would like to share a article with you that made me want to puke.

Here is the link:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/08/25/pitcher.toogood.ap/index.html?eref=fannation

Basically the gist of the story is the young child pictured above was told he is too good to pitch in his youth league.

Yes young Jericho Scott is so good that his youth league decided he could not pitch anymore because he could "hurt" someone.

China Vs. U.S. Is it what is Making the Olympics Relevant?

Hey this another one of my rants, this rant actually happens to be the topic of this weeks Open Mic on bleacher report, check my work out there if you have it, my name is chase ruttig.

Here is the blog

I am new to Bleacher Report, so I am not familiar with Open Mic, but what I am going to do is answer every topic given to me in the newsletter.

One thing before I start, I am a Canadian so this is an unbiased approach to this discussion

Question #1- Is this battle of the nations for real? Are the Olympics becoming relevant again as a proxy for geopolitical conflicts?

Euphoria

The Olympics are a host of many different emotions. Joy, pain, sorrow, and unfortunately due to a bizzare incident regarding a Chinese citizen and members of a United States Volleyball coach's family: tragedy. However, that is not what this blog is about. I want to talk about Euphoria. Screaming from the heavens, and sticking out your chest to show the world what you are all about.

Last night's 4x100 Relay was definitely the early highlight to these Olympic Games. Swimmer Michael Phelps was in contention for his Second Gold Medal, with the President of the United States and his family in the stands to cheer him on. With the U.S. in lane four, they had prime viewing of their main competition, France, over in lane five. Both countries started out at a ferocious pace with anchorman Jason Lezak just outstretching Frenchman Alain Bernard at the tape. Honestly, although NBC showed about 5 different close-ups of the finish I still believe that the French won just because of how close the finish was. Lezak had to come behind with mere meters left to just outpoint Bernard.
