Critical Thinking: Favre Solutions

Everyone is getting pretty sick of the Favre Fiasco. Instead of taking sides and trying to sway people to who is right or who is wrong, how about we help the bumbling Packers and make an educated guess as to where Favre might actually land? To do so will require my GM cap and application of all that useful NFL knowledge. I know, it could hurt my brain so I'll be careful.

Where could he realistically go? We know the Packers don't want him back (unless he is a #2 QB and we all know that won't fly with Favre) and Brett has said himself he wants to play for a contender. That eliminates any teams that are NOT considered playoff bound (sorry Miami, Kansas City, Buffalo, Oakland, Atlanta, San Fran) The other little talked about wrinkle is that Brett's contract allows him to nix any trade he doesn't like.

Worst NBA Salaries

Ok to come out right away, I read PHSports’s Blog (http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/216196) and his list of The NBA’s 10 Worst Current Contracts. I didn’t agree with his analysis so I decided to do a little research on my own. All the salary info you see before you is taken from Hoops Hype (http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm)

My Criteria

In order to qualify for this discussion the player is over rated compared to his contract. Seems pretty arbitrary right? I know. But I think I’ll be able to justify my reasoning in each case. Most of my criteria consist of what type of production is provided by the player, what type of roll they have on the team, character issues, injuries etc all play into it. Why exclude an oft injured player with a big contract, they still get paid right? I take the length/size of the contract into account as well. I’d love to put past horrible contracts on here but I am only basing this on salaries for this up coming year and going forward; no buy outs cause that’s a column in itself. All salaries are in millions.

Regarding: Favre a perfect fit for Vikings?

In response to:
Favre a perfect fit for Vikings?
Let's summarize all the reports and rumors flying around: Brett Favre "itching" to play. Packers cool to the idea. Favre talks to head coach about possible return. Packers cool to the idea. Favre asks for release. Packers cool to the idea. What does this tell us, other than the Packers are really cool? It says a hall of fame quarterback could be seeking short-term employment on the open market. Let's say that, somehow, Favre secures his release. It isn't a stretch to say he would look to sign with a team just a veteran quarterback away from the Super Bowl. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and snort. But think about it. Your very own Minnesota Vikings are the perfect fit for Favre, who would want to win immediately. No other team comes close, except the Packers, and they don't want him. Imagine, the Vikings really would be Super Bowl favorites. Plus, Tarvaris Jackson could learn from the best for a year or two. And Zygi Wilf could rev up the bulldozers. He would be the area's man of the year for working so diligently toward bringing a championship to Minnesota.

Is Love worth Mayo?

I was pretty excited when the Wolves drafted OJ Mayo. With the state of the Wolves we needed a guy with "upside". I assumed there might be a trade when the second round started going and we drafted a PG instead of a big man (which we sorely needed). Thats when I got nervous. The trade came a bit later and I have to admit I was pleasantly suprised. The Wolves send OJ Mayo and garbage (oops sorry I meant Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker and Greg Buckner) to the Grizz for Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, and Jason Collins. This trade only goes bad for us IF Mayo becomes the next Lebron/Kobe/Wade otherwise there is very little not to like.
