PGA Who Is He - FedEx Playoffs Round 3 - BMW Championship -

The remnants of Hurricane Gustav destroyed the opening round of the BMW Championship.  Driving rain and 40 MPH winds forced tournament officials to cancel Thursday's round completely before it even started.  Now, the tournament will be squeezed into three days, 18 holes on Friday, 36 on Saturday, and 18 more on Sunday.  The course is obviously waterlogged to a degree (although it appears to have drained pretty well) and that should make for some very receptive greens and some low scoring.  Any Who Is He I pick for profile this week is going to be an absolute guess anyway; so as not to take someone completely at random, I thought I'd take someone who is at least in the top-10 right now.  Maybe he'll cooperated by staying there by the time you read this.

PGA Weekly Sleepers - FedEx Playoffs Round 3 - BMW Champions

Well folks, it's Round 3 of 4 for the FedEx Cup, and we move from Norton, MA, to St. Louis, MO.  It's a Rees Jones-designed monster (at nearly 7,500 yds), and there are many folks who either want, or need to, make a huge move this week.  The starts and sits have been determined; but in a selective field such as this one, is there really a true sleeper out there?  Well, depending on your definition (and your ability to stretch said definition) of what a sleeper is; you just might find a few.  In fact, with Vijay winning and the media slobbering over choking-dog Sergio; sleepers should be pretty easy to find.  So with that, let's get to our "sleepers" (this should be even more fun in a couple of weeks in a field of 30).

PGA Start 'Em Sit 'Em - FedEx Playoffs Round 3 - BMW Champio

Well, we've come to the pivotal Round 3 Tournament in this year's FedEx Cup Playoffs, and unlike last year, the outcome is still in doubt, even with Vijay's two wins.  The field is very bunched and it should prove to be a shootout over the next two tournaments to determine who finally takes the FedEx Cup and the $10 million.  This week is especially crucial because the next cut is the top 30 players, meaning more than half the field say goodbye after this weekend.  Players like Vijay and Sergio are probably safe (even a missed cut should keep them in the top-30) but there are others between 20 and 30 that have to protect their spot, and anyone in the top-50 can get an invite to the Tour Championship solely on the basis of a strong finish, regardless of what anyone else does.  So, this week will be fun to say the least.  We're looking at a long (nearly 7,500 yds); relatively open course this week, so short hitters need not apply.  The greens are challenging, but not impossible (similar to last week, so expect good putting from different players than usual).  All in all, this week, we get to see who the true competitors are, and who's made of the "right stuff" to be a champion.  Some have thrived, some have faded, but it's go time this week; and everyone in the field needs to play at their best.  There's no room to take the foot off the gas pedal.  With that, let's see who's got it and who doesn't.

PGA Busts of the Week - FedEx Cup Playoffs Round 2 - Deutche

There was a lot of great golf this week in Norton, and there also was some not-so-great golf, and some were from some surprising sources.  The course itself played much easier than it could have; it was soft, and the weather was perfect all week.  Some golfers struggle with the preponderance of trees on the course; but all in all, for most players it didn't pose a problem.  For these three players however, there were big problems and some of them VERY costly.  In fact, in some cases, costly to the point where it really hinders or ends their participation in the FedEx Cup playoffs, in a very unexpected way.

PGA Top Tournament Performances - FedEx Cup Playoffs Round 2

This week may as well have been entitled "How to close out a tournament" by Vijay Singh.  It was just a masterful performance by Vijay, harkening back to earlier this decade when he was one of the truly dominant players in the game.  Singh was the story on Monday, but there were a few others who made their statements in their quest to continue on in the playoff hunt.  This was the first big cut week; next week will be even bigger; and even with two wins; Singh's lead is far from insurmountable.  The good folks of Norton saw a round for the ages on Monday, as one of golf's all-time great names tried to put the FedEx Cup Championship in a stranglehold.
