No More Sympathy for The Saints.

I will forever be chastized for saying this, and believe me, it actually hurts me somewhat to go ahead with it.  That being said, however; I'm through feeling sympathetic to the New Orleans Saints.

In 2000, I transferred to Loyola University New Orleans after spending two unevenful and otherwise unproductive years at art school in Chicago.  New Orleans, at that time, was a new, exciting, and magical place to me.  Being a product of Irish and Polish parents, I had never truely tasted my food before moving there.  The heat, the southern women, the absence of snow:  all things that were to me wonderous, albeit alien and confusing.

Have Faith in Cedric Benson.

Cedric Benson will explode this season.  Despite arguments to the contrary, suggesting that Benson's preseason average of 2.4 yards a carry foreshadows an underwhelming 2007 season, I believe Cedric's time as a Bear hero will undoubtably come to fuition this year.

First of all, this guy's tough.  Historically, the Bears love a running back that runs through people.  Sure he doesn't have the moves of the Great Sweetness or even that of Thomas Jones, but he runs over people like a Ford pickup over a Huyndai.  The Bears offfensive sceheme, although  flavored a bit with the athleticism of Berrian, Hester, Olsen and the arm of Grossman, is still a possession scheme.  If the Bears want a first down, they're gonna give it to Cedric, and Cedric's gonna steamroll them.  Benson is the type of back that gets better the more carries he sees, not only making him a stud for fantasy, but giving the Bears an unique endurance through the latter stages of the game.

The Recent Trend of Bears Hate

There's a new sports bandwagon to jump on this year, Ladies and Gentlemen, so go claim your seat now.  The Hate-Da-Bears bus is rolling and apparently willing to pick up any passenger these days.  Even the casual sports blogger has undoubtably witnessed some Bears-hating at this point, and I think I know the reason.

Bloggers, anaylists, broadcasters and the like all claim to know exactly what's going on in the NFL world.  Who should be drafted and why, what a coach did wrong, who's better at a given position:  everybody has an opinion, (some more well thought-out and developed than others).  Simply, Bears hate has to do with people losing bets and subsequently, a whole lot of money on the performance of the 2006 Bears.
