World Series

The World Series begins on Wednseday as the National League Champions the Colorado Rockies take on the American League champions the Boston Red Sox.

Here are my thoughts on this series.

World Series: Best of 7

Red Sox VS Rockies

The Rockies have won 21 of their last 22 games while the Red Sox fought back from a 3-1 deficit to win the ALCS in 7 games over the Indians. The Rockies have not play a game in 8 days heading into Wednesday. Everybody knows that the American League is better than the Natioanl League just like the AFC is better than the NFC in the NFL. But let's not ignore what the Rockies have don't. This team was 6 1/2 games back of the NL West and 4 1/2 games back of the Wild Card on Sept. 16, and look where they are now. The key to this series is will the lay off hurt the Rockies and can they make this a series and continue this hot streak. Game 1 is huge because if the Rockies can beat Josh Beckett, then they have a shot at winning this series. I think the Rockies have a little destiny in then and are riding a magic carpet ride right now. It will led them to a World Series title. Rockies in 6.

Joe Torre

Yesterday Joe Torre talk to the media and explain why he turn down the Yankees offer of a 1 year contract worth $5 million a year with incentives depending on how far the Yankees go in the playoffs.  Joe said that the offer was an insulted to him, and that he feel that he was not wanted. He also said that the money was not an issue but the length of the deal was to him. To me I wanted Joe back as the manager. The players wanted him back, the fans for the most part wanted him back, but the people in the organization don't. People like Randy Levine for example wanted Joe out. It a joke that these people are working for the Yankees. The offer to Joe was a total joke. I mean $5 million is a good salary, but tying incentives base on the team performance is crazy. We all know the playoffs are a crap shoot. Teams get hot at the right time like the Cardinals did last year, and the Rockies did this year. I can see why Joe turn the deal down. Joe wanted to manage the Yankees next year, and he loves being the manager of the Yankees. He has made the playoffs every single year since he became the manager. He has won 4 world championships. Now he has not won one in 7 years, and has lost in the Division Series the last 3 years since they collapsed in the 2004 ALCS to the Red Sox. Joe didn't want to deal with the garbage that he has to deal with anymore. The Yankees should have made a decision on Joe after their series with the Indains. Instead the Yankees drag this along for more than a week, and have egg on their faces. The Yankees will have a new manager next year. Who the manager will be is anyone's guess. As for Joe, he still wants to managed even at 67 years old. He probably will sit out next year and wait to see if there is a team that can win a championship. Joe Torre will be miss by the Yankees.

LCS predictions

The LCS begins tonight as the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Colorado Rockies in the National League. And then tomorrow the American League begins with the Boston Red Sox against the Cleveland Indians. Both series are best of 7 series. Here are my thoughts on both series.

ALCS

Red Sox VS Indians

The Red Sox sweep the Angels, while the Indains beat the Yankees in 4 games.  The Red Sox are a more balance team than the Indains. There pitching is really good. But the Indians pitching is underrated, especially with starting pitchers C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona. Both teams have good offenses and paly good defenses. The Red Sox won the season series 5-2, but that doesn't really matter. Something tell me that the Indians will win this series. Indains in 6.

Baseball Postseason predictions

Wednesday the Major League Baseball Postseason begins. The Matchups in the American League are Yankees VS Indians and Angels VS Red Sox. The Matchups in the National League are Diamondbacks VS Cubs and Phillies VS Rockies. Here are my thoughts and predictions on the postseason.

Division Series: Best of 5

American League

Yankees VS Indians

The Yankees got off to a bad start to start the year. But then they got hot from July on to win the Wild Card and almost won the AL East. The offense was carry by A-Rod(who had a monster year, will win his 3th MVP, and probably opt out of his contract and become a free agent), Derek Jeter, and Jorge Posada(he too had a big year on his walk year) in the first half of the year, and then the left handed bats of Johnny Damon, Bobby Abreu, Robinson Cano, and Hideki Matsui got hot in the 2nd half. The Young pitchers lead by Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, and Ian Kennedy have giving the pitching staff a boost, especially Chamberlain, who have emerge as the set up men for Mariano Rivera. The Indians bounce back from a bad 2006 to have a big 2007 in winning the AL Central. They have a good offense lead by Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, and Victor Martinez. They have 2 good starting pitchers in C. C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona. There setup men are good lead by Rafael Perez and Rafael Betancourt. There closer Joe Borowski is nothing to write home about. I wanted to see Borowski get big outs in this series before I'm convince about him. The Yankees went 6-0 aganist the Indians this year. They will find a way to beat them again. Yankees in 4.

Mets Collapsed

Today the Mets finished off their collapsed with a 8-1 lost to the Marlins and the Phillies beat the Nationals 6-1 to win the National League East. Tom Glavine give up 7 runs in 1/3 of a inning in what could be his last start in the major leagues. The Mets had chances in the first 3 innings to get back in it, but they only score 1 run. After that, the Mets basically gave up on the game and were eliminated by the Phillies who won their game. This is the biggest lead a team has lost in the last month of the season and not make the playoffs at 7 games. It surpassed the 1964 Phillies who had a 6 1/2 game lead on the Reds with 12 games left. The Phillies went on to finish 1 game back (tied with the Reds) of the Cardinals, who went on to beat the Yankees in 7 games to win the World Series. Funny that it is the Phillies who are the ones that benefited from the Mets collapsed 43 years later. The Mets had a 7 game lead on the Phillies on Aug. 25 with 34 games left. The Mets also had a 7 game lead on the Phillies with 17 games left. The Phillies in their last 8 games against the Mets won all 8 games aginst them. That is one of the reasons the Phillies were able to catch the Mets. The Phillies seem to wanted it more then the Mets. They had to overcome every injured on their pitching staff to win the division. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel did an outstanding job of keeping the Phillies from falling apart. As for the Mets, their collapsed goes right up there with the Yankees collapsed against the Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS when the Yankees had a 3-0 lead on the Red Sox before the Red Sox staged the biggest comeback in a best of 7 playoff series winning the last 4 games. I don't know which collapsed is worse. But the Mets will have a long off season to think about this. Someone is going to pay for the collapsed. Until the next collapsed, the 2007 Mets will go down as the biggest collapsed in the regular season in Major League Baseball history.
