Cowboys-Celtics-ChiSox's Blog

Throwdowns are a funny thing.

Disclaimer: I just found this pic. The "venom and tears" thing is silly since that's a picture of a python, which  do NOT spew venom.  They are large, though harmless, snakes. (anyone interested in acquiring a python should contact me)

-Anyhow-

Do you Throw Down? If not, this probably isn't a blog for you.

If so, you'll know where I'm coming from.

Ever had the better argument, but lost?

Oh, I don't mean you THOUGHT you had the better argument. We always THINK we have the better argument, else we wouldn't do it.

Anatomy of a No-Hit pitcher?

Is that really a picture of Gavin Floyd? The guy drafted in the 1st round (4th pick overall) by the Phillies in 2001 who was such a major bust that they gave him away for peanuts? Has CCC lost his mind?

For a minute I thought this was going to be a blog about how prophetic I am, lol. Last month I did a TD commemorating Mark Buehrle's no-no last year on April 18th and asked who the most likely White Sox pitcher to toss a no hitter this year is. I took Floyd and, of course, got my rear end handed to me.

Age. The depressing rants of an old(er) man.

As the calandar flips and we all get another year older it got me to thinking about age.

What is age, really? "You are as young as you feel" is often said to those of us over 30. As if it's supposed to make us feel better as we approach the dreaded 4-oh.

"Aging is a process that can not be stopped". Well no kidding! ;-)

It's interesting that men and women "age" differently, at least how I see it. In that regard I'm very happy to be a man.

Cowboys sign Marcus Dixon as an UFA.

Who is Marcus Dixon you ask?

Well, to the delight of division foes, I'm sure, he's another of those "high risk" guys.

See, Marcus spent time in prison for "statutory rape". In fact he was supposed to do a minimum of 10 years. Cooler heads (and real lawyers acting pro bono) prevailed and this kid got a well deserved second chance on life, if not the NFL.

Marcus is a gifted DE who got a raw deal from what I can tell. Now, he may or may not turn out to be an NFL quality player, but he deserves the chance few teams other than the Cowboys are willing to give these days. A kid who is humble and appreciative of his opportunity. I like his chances.

Analyzing the Cowboys draft.

Ok, like most arm chair GM's out there I have my own thoughts on what the Cowboys -should- have done in the draft and what they actually did do. As worthless as those thoughts are, here goes...

What I wanted:

Trade one of those first rounders (along with maybe a 3rd rounder) for an established veteran WR. Seemed to be a few who might be available in Chad Johnson, Roy Williams, or Anquan Boldin

What Happened:

By most accounts the Boys tried to do exactly that but couldn't find anyone willing to deal. Can't dance without a partner, I guess.

What I wanted:

Use the other 1st rounder to draft a starting quality cornerback.

What happened:

They moved up from #28 to #25 to grab Mike Jenkins. #1 or #2 corner on most teams boards. The guy has the size, speed, and hands to be a receiver. Might be something special at CB. Love this pick.
