BSchwartz, I must admit that I have been impressed with our offense since LaRoche came back. I watched Kotchman play for the Sox in several games (since ESPN doesn't show any teams except Boston and the Yankees); he seems quite happy where he is now. The trade seems to be a benefit to both teams....I bow to your MLB knowledge sir. :-)

ok here is my thoughts on the Kotchman trade... He is a solid 1B, but I really feel Kotchman was a big part of what was wrong with this lineup... hard to say about a guy hitting just below .300 with zero Errors, but he has NO POWER at all. 1B is not a hard defensive position and this lineup needs some pop.

Went to the game today....wow, what a crowd, largest one of the year in fact (over 51,000). It was great; I LOVE going to Turner Field!

BSchwartz, that was a T&R on the MLB page today; go over and check out the thread. Holliday's offensive numbers aren't that different than Escobar's.....truth be told, I think Escobar is so deep in the doghouse with Cox that nothing will help him now.

well Escobar is a head case, and most scouts think he has capped his potental, also the team is actually deep in middle infielders. Plus Holliday can provide some much needed power.

I think the plan is to have Church fill in at RF for the rest of this year and then sometime in 2010 Heyward will take over in RF (let's hope this local kid is more McCann than Frenchie)

Yeah, I'm familiar with Heyward; in fact, I work with a guy who used to coach him in high school; he said he knew the first time he saw him play that he would be in the majors eventually.

From where I'm looking the Francoeur trade may be less about Jeff's ability to become the star the folks in Atlanta wanted him to be and more about Jason Heyward's future with the team. The 19 year olf RF is starting to top most lists of prospects in baseball. It is only a matter of time until this guy is in the middle of the order providing that MUCH needed power bat in the order.

I thought Bobby Cox did the right thing in starting Smoltz instead of Glavine. Gave Smoltzie a chance to pitch in warmer weather rather than the cold climate in Denver. Another game, another hero. Today's was Mark Texiria. Great job at the plate and a game saving play to end the game.

Andruw's at-bat in the 8th tonight was absolutely stunning. He was shown in the dugout, a few minutes before, looking up some info. Wonder if it was the scouting report on what Heath Bell throws.

After Edgar's triple tied things, they intentionally walked Chipper with 1 out to set up the double play, and chose to pitch to Andruw. FIRST PITCH - and a good one, a slider off the plate away from Andruw - and apparently he guessed it was coming, because he stayed back and roped it the other way. My God, if Andruw would make up his mind to hit like that just twice per night, he could be one of the best who ever lived ... it's exciting to watch, when he goes up there with a clue.

I will be the first to admit that it was bittersweet to see Marcus go. And, I was scared to death that Kelly Johnson would fall flat on his face. Boy, was I wrong (at least so far). He's been great....way beyond my expectations. He gets on base and hasn't been a liability on the field. I guess that's why I'm not the manager!

Anyone else shcoked, stunned and amazed at Kelly Johnson's fantastic performance so far out of the leadoff position?

I remember when Kelly stalled at AA ball ... he spent 2 years in my hometown of Greenville, trying to fight through that level. I expected him to make the majors as a utility man / 4th outfielder (no shame in that), but instead he's showing signs of turning into the star that some thought he would be when he blazed through the low minors years ago. All the walks and doubles are very fun for me to watch right now.
