How about those Phills sweeping the Mets right out of their own stadium? The series had everything! Clutch hits, Billy Wagner blowing a save, Phillies bullpen shutting it down, and good starting pitching from Moyer, Eaton and Hamels (well, except for his giving up three straight homeruns). Before I get too excited, let's see what they do in interleague play this weekend.

once the phils get a bullpen, they will compete with the best teams in the NL. there o will be just fine and having victorino and burrell with a combined 11 outfield assists, the d will hold up 2. their pitching hasnt been bad(except eaton) and myers at closer is good. just need some relievers other then geary

Thank God this trip is over. First day off in 23 days. On this trip, Howard aggravated his thigh strain, We lost Gordon ( ok maybe a blessing), Madson is on the D.L. . It looks like Lieber loses two days with a cut on his finger. Burrell's average dropped 67 points, Garcia runs into a golf cart, Yikes, bad and unlucky.
There is good news, Hamels is 4-1, Rollins 6 th in Hr's with 9. Utley 4th in RBI's with 28. Rollins leads the league in runs scored with 32 and 4th in hits with 46. Utley leads in doubles and rollins 2nd in Triples. So not all bad.

The phillies frantically need bullpen help, and hopefully there will be someone decent available at the trade deadline. Maybe a prospect or two would sway a team to part with a top setup man or something. Gillick seriously needs to reassure the city of Philadelphia that he still has the competence to be a general manager.
Let's see. We have no bullpen to speak of ( even with a healthy Gordon and Madsen). Our 3b is an above average or average hitter and below average fielder. Burrell is hitting around .250 with 1 Home Run. We have no Outfield power. Our bullpen is 2-8. Howard appears to have been hurting since Spring Training.
I am wondering when gillick wakes up and realizes that maybe this is not the team he thought or he grossly over valued what he had and does something. If I have to watch our bullpen give up run after run, well it's to much.
It's like my one of my daughters favorite movies, Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, it's sthe same thing over and over again.
Aaron Rowand is the best centerfielder the Phils' have had in a very long time. Go PHILS!!!!
