Louisville Cardinals Fan Group

It is the start of a new season!! Yee-Haw!!
The Cards looked better against Northern Kentucky, not as many turnovers, rebounding much better. Samuels is a nice addirtion to the team:)) And I am very gald Clarke returned although he hasn't showed me much yet!
becca e. 11/10/08
I am very pleased that Kansas beat UNC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO KANSAS!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 04/05/08
The Cards late season comeback fell a little short in Charlotte, but the season didn't end in disappointment. Looking back on the season, especially after Louisville dropped their first Big East game at home to Cincy, most figured that the Cards hopes were all but gone. Those who are true loyal fans, saw this as a low point, yes, but also something to build on. We all know that Pitino knows how to motivate and discipline his players when he needs to. Just look at the challenge he issued his players to go 8-2 in February. What happened? They won all 10. The loss of Padgett and Farly will sting a little bit, and Caracter may end up going pro. The rest will be back, which means, we'll have all positions returning. The recruiting class looks impressive too this next year. We'll see what happens.

Great season for the Cards. I am very proud of them.

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring on baseball.

What a fantastic morning!!! YES!!! The Cards played a very good game and the Elite Eight is the prize!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/28/08
I agree about Lofton. I want the Cards to beat Tenn.when they are 100%!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/27/08
Becca,
Actually my bracket is holding up fairly well, except for San Diego winning and UCONN losing so early. I did have WKU going to the Sweet 16, which everyone in the office made fun of me for. Looks like I will get the last laugh and take home the money :)
Did you see that the opening line for the UL/TENN game has UL favored by 2? That number will fluctuate with the number of bets made, but we'll see who wins tonight. Hopefully, Lofton's injury isn't bad so he gets to play, so TENN can't say that their star player was hurt was the reason they potentially may lose the game. Should be fun to watch though. GO CARDS!!!

Jason, you were almost spot on with your predictions from the very beginning of the year!!! How does your bracket look?? I might need to get a few pointers from you for next season!! LOL

Cards looked great against Oklahoma!!! Very few turnovers!!!
Sweet Sixteen Baby!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/23/08
They looked pretty good against Boise State with the exception of the careless turnovers. I know they won handily, but they'll need to take better care of the ball if they want to beat the big dogs in the country.

Louisville can make it to the final four, it will be tough but they can do it!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/17/08
A three seed is awesome!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/16/08
That was a great game that Pitt and Louisville played but the shooting has got to get much better for the Cards. I wonder what Williams is thinking on alot of his passes and shots he executes. I think Character was doing a better job than Padgett and wish that Pitino would have played him more. Pitino put in alot of different line ups than I am use to seeing. But, I trust in his decisions, he has been to the Dance many times. Please... not a five seed!!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/14/08
Well, the Cards dropped another one (not surprising) with the poor shooting again. The Cards better get it together. Fortunately, they have time off before the NCAA's start. The bad news is, the committee can make the case that Louisville only deserves a #5 seed after losing their first game in the conference tournament and two straight overall. A five seed isn't what they want, and 5 seeds don't favor to well in the Big Dance. Pitino will get them in gear, but if they are to fall in the tourney, they'll go down fighting for sure!

GO CARDS!!!!!
angus 03/13/08
I gotta say that I was pretty disappointed with the Cards' last performance. Letting the Hoyas shoot 65% in the second half is inexcusable. Sad thing is they only lost by 3. Had that been pretty much any other team, it would'v been a double digit loss for sure.
As far as playing...funny you bring that up, I did play a little high school ball. I wasn't a great defender, but I was an excellent 3-point and free throw shooter. As of last year, I rank in the Top 5 in both categories percentagewise. Being from Kentucky, of course I had a basketball goal growing up and I'd play for hours, mostly just shooting around, but would play games with neighborhood kids, especially those who were better than me. Playing better competition only makes you better.
And that's what the Cards will do. Georgetown was the better team that day, but Pitino will get them in shape for the Dance, that's a given. He won't put up with half-ass effort and if he sees it, he'll yank them out. If you don't believe me, watch the New Years Day game with Cincy again.

GO CARDS!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/08/08
Three seed is bull shyt, but Louisville never gets any respect. If Cards win the Big East tourny, they should get a one seed. Big East is a tough conference, very tough.

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/05/08
Do we get a seed better than a three? What does everyone think?
weazy 03/04/08
Gonna be a battle this weekend for the championship! But I think the cards hang on at the end and win by six 64-58!!
weazy 03/04/08
One game left... Georgetown at Georgetown!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/03/08
I didn't see the game either, I was working but we had it on the radio. I listened as much as I could. We need to be ready for Nova tomorrow, they are a tough little team to beat, ask UConn.

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 03/01/08
I couldn't watch that game as it wasn't on television here in southern Mississippi. I did watch it update on a cell phone I borrowed, and really thought that the Cardinals should've closed the game a little better than they did. Being up by 22 I think in the first half and depending on two key free throws at the end of the game to seal it was little too scary for us Cards fans. As we know from the Cards' history, free-throw shooting hasn't been our forte, but fortunately for us, they made them count when we needed them in the final minute of play. This is one of the most underrated and dangerous teams in the country for many reasons. Anyone can score big on any given night. They rebound as pass well, plus their defense is one of the best in the country. Combine all of that with very little hype about them and watch out. They are #13 in the AP, but a snoring #18 in the Coach's poll. After the ND win (even at home) and if they can beat this streaky Nova team (I bet the Committe deosn't have a clue what to do with them), then the Cards could almost make a case for being back in the Top 10 in the AP poll. I could care less what they are in the Coach's poll, because that poll really doesn't mean much. Fun to see how this will all pan out and where the dust will settle. The Big East could get eight teams in, but seven is more probable.
angus 03/01/08
Jason, I was a little worried but Louisville got the win against Notre Dane!!! YEE-HAW!!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 02/28/08
Notre Dame is gonna be tough!!! Actually, the rest of the games are gonna be tough!!! DC needs to get his stuff toghether. He has came a long way but he is not there yet. Padgett needs his help for the rest of this season if we are gonna finish BIG!!!

GO CARDS!!!!
becca e. 02/26/08
Louisville could win out, but key wins at home against ND and "sleeper" game Nova will set the tone for the finisher in DC. If they win those two, expect a great game against the Hoyas for a possible 25-6 regular season and a first round conf. tourney bye. Playing a possible three games to win the conf tourney is a lot better and easier than playing four. If the Cards win their home games, they will lock the bye.
angus 02/25/08
getting beat!!!
becca e. 02/23/08

Who of sane mind doesn't love college basketball. Looking at the upcoming schedule, they play Pitt and Georgetown on the road, but have home games in the middle with Notre Dame (thank goodness) and lowly Villanova. Three wins out of four would be great, but anticipate 2-2. Even with a 2-2, the Cards should get a first round bye in the Big East tourney. Looking back, my pre-season prediciton of the Cards wasn't too far off, was it?

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 12/16/07
Does anyone know how long it will take for Pettino's 500th win to come? I've been waiting- and I still am!
Why didn't Pitino play Farley at all? I just can not understand why he didn't. Is he hurt? We could have used Farley and Clark. Clark can not play that position, he looked awkward and lost. Character needs to be kicked off the team, we have no use for attitudes. It will be beteer if they get used to playing without him.
I still have HOPE!!!!! We have the talent, we just nees to execute!!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 12/16/07
They won't if they play the second half the way they played the first half. Clark needs more touches for sure. The Cards have lost a lot of size, so Pitino is going to have to use a three guard line-up until Palacios comes back in two weeks. And how good will he be when he gets back? Looks similar to last year, huh? As long as they win in February and March, they'll be fine.

Jason,
I do appreciate the win, you know I do. But the Cards are gonna have to make a team play their game instead of the other way around. We have the talent, we just have a hard time executing our style of play.

Becca,
I didn't see the game (big surprise), but a W is a W when it comes to NCAAB. When the RPI is calculated, it matters not how much you win by, but whether they win or lose. Hard to believe how few points were scored. When I saw the write-up, I thought I was looking at a Princeton/Harvard score from 60 years ago.

Can I believe it? Not really at all. It's too bad they couldn't have done better. The Cards ended a nine year streak of bowl appearances and winning seasons.
The B-Ball Cards will have more wins by Christmas than the Football Cards had all season. Sad really.
angus 11/30/07
Can you (Jason) believe that we beat Rutgers???? That makes me very happy, especially after what they did to the cards last year!!!!
We have a game tomorrow, I am as always excited.

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 11/30/07
Clark is the main reason that the Cards are 3-1 so far. If last year's Clark showed up this year, the Cards could've been 1-3. Just looking at the upcoming schedule, now is about the time that the Cards can go on a run, especially with Palacios coming back soon. Look for UL to possibly win their next 9 in a row before the showdown with UK at Rupp on Jan 5th. Go Cards!!!
angus 11/25/07
I din't get to see the Old Dominion game but another win. I just love Clark, he has done very good this year!!!

Thank you very much both of you!!!! There's always room for improvement. I never get a big head about things. I'm my own worst critic and it shows in my attitude and job performance. I excel, since I don't gloat about doing the right thing or doing the job well. That may be why I've only won 2 quarterly awards in my career. But, I've got the decorations to make up for it. My wife thinks I look like a Colonel or something with my ribbon rack...lol
I can't watch the game tonight, as it comes on at 3am, and I'll be sleeping until I have to go to work a few hours later. I'll read about it once I get in.

becca e. 11/21/07
Thank you very much Becca and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I do have to be honest with you. Humble or whatever you want to call it, I feel it's a great honor to serve the United States. It's the greatest honor of my life to date, and I'm a well-decorated Airman. To me, there's no greater feeling than serving the country that has already given me so much. Yeah, I've deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, and have served in Germany for a second tour, and at times it's difficult, being so far away from loved ones. But, in all reality, I'd rather it be me than them and do my part to make sure they're safe and the Spirit of America retains its legacy of valor. It's people like you and even the average Joe, that we (as in military) do what we do. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have anything to defend at all. But, since America is what she is, this is who I became...one who's more disciplined, thankful, and blessed that I can do a job I love and it affects others, whether they know it or not. And let me tell you, being a battlefield weather forecaster and observer, I work all hours of the day, 60-70 hours a week, if not more, and get to do a lot of secret squirrel support for 3 continents. To be a 27 year old (or young, however you want to think of it), a lot of responsibility gets placed on me, and I have yet to drop the ball or do something I shouldn't have or have regretted. So, this Thanksgiving, I may have to say something similar to friends that we're having over after I get home from work, and let them know how thankful I am and that everyone that is coming over has affected my life for the better.

God Bless you and your family and as always may God continue to bless America!!!
angus 11/21/07
tonite is gonna be our first real test of the season, i have confidence that Farley and Caracter will step up and fill the hole that we now have without David!!! And Palacios will be back soon and he brings the team experience and leadership.
I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving Jason!!! I am very Thankful to have men and women such as yourself sevring our great country, so I thank you!!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!
becca e. 11/21/07
Yeah, David's out for at least 10 weeks, maybe not til postseason, or maybe he can apply for a medical redshirt and return for a 6th season. Who knows. Caracter is out til at least December and may not return until we play Kentucky. If the Cards win this tournament in the condition they're in now, look out for a great conference run and a high seed. I feel that this could possibly be the year that the Cards could make a case for a 1 seed. But, since they're Louisville, they'll get a 4, like they did in 2004. I think that they'll end with a 3 seed, maybe as high as a 2 if we can get healthy, which also means winning the Big East. The Big East is strong this year. So far, my predictions aren't too far off. The Big East could end up taking half (8) of the league, which would be an NCAA tourney record from a single conference. All that matters is......GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not going to ask your age...lol that's just rude. Maybe, I'll be able to see the Cards play UNC, if they both make it to the Las Vegas tourney championship game on Saturday. They can't play the way they did so far against UNC, or they'll lose by double digits.
angus 11/19/07

becca e. 11/18/07
yes, football was a little disappointing this year!!!
becca e. 11/18/07
I know what you're talking about. I believe I remember seeing him on television for one of the UL football games. Speaking of football, aren't you glad it's basketball season? The football Cards have just looked awful this year and probably won't go to a bowl game. This a year after they went to Orange Bowl, defeating ACC Champ Wake Forest 24-13. All that matters I suppose, is that at least the basketball Cards have the potential to make a deep run into the NCAA tourney and we may see them playing in April.
angus 11/18/07
there is a boy in the band that is blind and his dad pushes him while he plays. the t.v. show extreme home makeover gave them a 2 million dollar house!!! it was all very exciting, my husband did part of the concrete work while the work was being done. they were here for a week. they also gave the band a new field to practice on. they live off bardstown rd. near the overpass that goes around buechel, do you know where that is? i am sure you do. i think the show will be in feb. i was sworn to silence for 2 months until the show told the family, it is a nice thing that show does!!!!!

Nope. Can't watch many Cards games this year. I'll end up watching probably 5 or 6 this season. And yes, I'm from Louisville. Born and raised before I left for the Air Force.
angus 11/17/07
are you ready for the game Jason???? are you gonna be able to see any of Louisville's games???? i suppose you won't. I'll run some highlights down for you!! UConn got beat by memphis last night, shame, i hate Calipari!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!
becca e. 11/17/07
Yes they did deserve to go last year, that's why I'm pulling for them this year, I hope they do well, unless it's against the Cards of course!!!! Are you from Louisville, I can't remember if you ever told me that. I have a good story for you if you are!!!
becca e. 11/14/07
Well they ended up pulling it out. Syracuse will do well this year and make the NCAA's, unlike last year, when I felt they really deserved to go.
angus 11/14/07
I do get excited myself, but I have learned not to look too far ahead.
I was watching a little bit of Syracuse-St. Joe's. I don't like Deovdorf,but I do want Syracuse to win.
becca e. 11/13/07
I agree. The Cards will more than likely beat the two schools from CT. I was just giving you my preview of their season before it started.
angus 11/13/07
Your going too fast for me!!!! Let'sust concentrate on Hartford!!! We'll skunk them and every team from Connecticut!!!! My friend from UConn, JFKJR made a bet with me, he's gonna be changing his name on Nov. 17!!!
GO CARDS!!!!!
becca e. 11/13/07
Well, that's good to see. If they in fact reach their full potential, expect them to in the Big East outright. That doesn't mean hey'll win the conference tournament, but who knows. If they do, good for them, if not, they'll still have a high enough RPI and quality wins to make it. My pre-season guess is Louisville gets a 2 or 3 seed and goes deep in the Tournament before falling in the Final Four, losing to either UCLA or North Carolina. They won't get waxed, but they'll fizzle halfway through the second half and go without a field goal for several minutes. They'll play catchup at the end, but the damage would've already been done. The Cards fall by 9 (after playing the last minute free-throw game); 86-77.
angus 11/12/07
I definitely agree that he is a great coach, and I'm not as bad as I use to be!!!! I have such high hopes for this season, hope things work out to their potential.
becca e. 11/11/07
I can't say I agree with you at this point. A few years ago, yes, I was right there with you. But, he's really brought this program back to a national power, from well...the last two Senny Crum years. A depp NIT run, a few NCAA tourney's and a Final Four is a pretty good accomplishment from where they were in the late 90's. Yes, he was at UK, but so was two guys on his coaching staff. I'm sure you remember Walter McCarty and Steve Masiello. Well, they'll do well under Pitino, and don't think they won't leave. Pitino is training them to leave. Hopefully, they'll be as good as former UK great Travis Ford. Just try and come around like most Cards fans. He's a great fit for the program.

Why aren't you a Pitino fan?
angus 11/10/07
Although I'm not a big Pitino fan, he seems to know how to get to the championship!!! We start our season on the 17th and we shouls breeze by Hartford. I want to think like that but I don't want the yeam to think like that. I wish we played a tougher schedule outside of our conference, even though conference play is pretty hard! And yes, I remember the 86 team as well as the 80 team and I'm ready to celebrate like that again!!!
GO CARDS!!!
becca e. 11/07/07
If what I say is worked on in practice, then the Cards will do very well this year and contend for another national title. One of the few things in life I'd like to see again is the Cards winning another title. I remember the 1986 Championship very well and this team looks fairly similar on the offensive side of the house. Remember, back in 1986, the 3-point shot hadn't been adpoted by the NCAA as a whole, so it was a completely different coaching strategy. If anyone can guide the Cards to a 3rd Championship, it's Coash Pitino.

We have a good inside and outside game that is for sure. The Big East is a tough conferrence for sure. Hopfully we play a little better than our opponents and do get our first championship. I saw both games and we look good. We have the size this year that we need to be competitive in the Big East.GO CARDS!!!

Turnovers and free-throw shooting have plagued the Cards since...heck ever since I remember watching them in the early 80s. The Cards should strive or a FT% in the low 70s and keep turnovers to a dozen or less. Even though they did have so many turnovers, they have been very productive on offense, thanks to superb shot selection. This is the first time in a long time, that the Cards can pound it in the post with many guys. If they stay healthy and Pitino stays on them like fear through the French army in practice, the Cards could take their first Big East conference championship and could even well end their 22 year national title drought.

Turnovers were a problem but that will improve with time

Im just excited to see Padgett healthy and the depth of our bench.

Jason, I saw the game and you are so right about the turnovers!!! They threw alot of lazy, silly passes and were not as sharp on defense as they should have been. The offensive end of their game is good, freethrows also need to improve. They defi nitely have the potential to make a great showing in the Big East this year.

I don't know what to think full-heartedly about the Cards. I'm overseas, so I didn't get the luxury of watching the games, plus AFN doesn't show many NCAAB featuring the Cards, unless it's a "significant" game. I think I got to see 5 or 6 of their games last year. But, from what I've read about them in the short articles on line that have covered the two exhibition games, it looks like they have the potential to be a very dangerous team this year. Beating Carleton, is nothing to sneeze at. Yeah, they're Canadian, but the defending 5-time national champs? That says something. Now, the Georgetown college game...mixed emotions on this one. On paper, the Cards easily overmatched them and the final score reflected that. One thing which is inexcusable is 25 turnovers. If the Cards are going to go deep in the tournament this year, 20+ turnovers a game, won't cut it, and they could even miss the NIT. With 18 conference games this year, ball protection will be critical. If the Cards go 12-6 in this conference, it'll be a huge lift heading into the postseason. The Big East remember, is the largest conference, and most of the teams can beat any of them on any given night. That's how much depth is there. If the Cards can limit the amount of turnovers and have as good shot selection as they did against GeorgetownCollege , then the Cards can be serious championship contenders. Keep in mind, this is based off of 2 games, I didn't see, but read about, but if anything feels what I said was wrong, write me back personally.
