Also, if Obama really wanted kids to learn more, then he shouldn't have gone on tv a month ago during the school day and encouraged school districts to take time away from Math and Science so the children can watch him talk.

In addition, America was once the leader in education. You know what subjects they taught back then? Writing, Math, Science, History, and the Arts (music, psychology, gym, etc). I have a simple solution to increase the grades: make learning a foreign language optional. Allow the high school kids to select what classes to take (with the exception of the main 4 - math, writing, science, history) rather than telling them what to take. Then, especially at high school, they can prepare themselves for their next step in life, whether it be college, the military, or a full-time job.

There is my proposal for increasing test scores in America, and look, it doesn't require an extended school day or going to school on Saturdays. If kids are interested in what they are learning, then they will stay out of trouble...simple as that.

oldpro1225 - How is the government going to pay for an extended school day in the first place? Teacher's salaries are going to have be raised, which means increasing taxes.

Secondly, everybody learns in different ways. Will an extended school day help some children? Yes, because they need to hear it from somebody to learn. What about the other children who learn better by reading on their own? An extended school day is going to do them harm.

God must love stupid people, He made so many of them. The President encouraging children to study hard, stay in school, and have aspirations to be a contributing member of American society is really a bad thing isn't it. You people are pathetic.

I guess he's TRYING to send a good message, but I believe he's just trying to become more popular with the youth of America. I don't really think the President has much influence on kids (since most don't care much about politics), so I think at the end of the day, he's just wasting class time.

Also, I have heard that several Dem Senators also want that seat to be a Dem (or at the very least an independent) so that they can have total control of the Senate.

Oh my, we are paying non-essential personnel 56k/yr? ****?! How about this...Pay everybody UNDER $100k/year working the lines. Seriously, I am supporting myself and my wife on $62k/year and am fine. $145k/year and I'd be retiring when I'm 50. Add to the fact that the autoworkers are getting AWESOME health benefits.

I totally agree, Fletch. My first car was a '66 mustang, followed by a '94 and then an '86 mustang. The '66 was better built than either of the other two in terms of parts quality. The '86 and '94 seemed about on par until the '94 got to be 2 or 3 years old and all the pieces started cracking, whereas the '86 held up pretty well for a good 185k miles, when I finally sold it. The '94 was cute at first, but turned out to be cosmetically and mechanically short-lived. I have since owned 5 different toyotas, one subie and one jeep liberty. The liberty wasn't half bad, but the toyotas were such a great value, and all of them were fairly spartan but still had such a great quality feel about them.

Why can't american vehicles be the same? All of the Toyotas were built in Japan, but I've seen other usa-built toyotas and they seem just as good. Why is it necessary to pay someone 70/hr to work on an assembly line, especially when we are building the cars less efficiently than Japan is? This is not that hard to fix. I'm not ready to send any money to fatten up the already porky auto industry. It's time to come back to earth, demand efficient work, and hand out pay that makes sense, not this crazy 145k/year industry average. That's totally nuts!

And, start producing a better quality product. You ask anyone why they choose a foreign made vehicle over an American Made and 9 times out of 10 you'll here 'better quality, more reliable, better warranty'. Price is usually isn't a factor... It's what youre getting for what your paying.. .And, for the last 15-20 years people buying American made vehicles haven't been getting what they are paying for.......

I was watching Fox this morning (Steve will love this source) and they were citing the variance between GM and Toyota in terms of benefits costs and pay. Average GM worker pay = $70+/hr while Toyota twirls out $47/hr! Medical benefit compensations = $1600 per car built for GM, while Toyota spends $300 per car built. Talk about record inefficiency in the USA. You think we need to blindly throw $50billion at the UAWs now? Geesh! There needs to be a push to restructure the way the UAW does business and the way all US auto-manufacturers operate. No wonder the cars are made from crap materials here, we spend all the money on 145k salaries and ridiculously high health benefits! I wish I was raking in $70+/hr!

I understand what you are saying, but there is no reason why a reorganization/replacement of the current f'ed-up auto-union system can't occur at the same time as assistance is lent. The union leaders pushed for Obama to be in office because they felt he was the easiest to manipulate their way. Allowing that manipulation to occurr is not acceptable to anyone in the US. I'm telling you, the system needs to start CHANGING now! Where's my CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN??

For all their b**ching and complaining, they are now pushing an agenda they campaigned AGAINST! I saw this coming 2 days ago when the reports of the auto industry wanting a bail-out surfaced. The big issue is that 50% of the money being requested (in the multiple-tens-of-billions) is to pay for union benefits. Of course I immediately knew that Obama would be all for this, since he is from a corrupt union-fed state and because a great deal of his numbers in the swing-states was brought on by unions pushing for him. They did a polling report that gave all the union-member votes to Obama on FOX the night of the election. Now the unions want their payoff. Obama, proving he has no shame, is now saying Bush should sign off on the bailout of the auto industry. I'd be all for it, if it actually bailed out the industry and NOT THE FREAKING UNION! This is an example of union corruption still alive and well in the 21st century. I expected no less from a liberal from Illinois. Hopefully, Obama's bet that Bush is a **** falls through and he doesn't push the bailout without heavy revisions. There are still enough republicans and fiscally-responsible independents in the senate to keep this union-cash-cow from being slid through easily.

The Conservatives believed that Joe the Plumber would persuade working class voters that politics that were tilted in favor of priviliged were designed with Joe in mind. It isn't working, thus many Conservatives are turning on each other.
Finally, Colin Powell says that the Republican Party has become "narrower and narrower"
he had to remind the faithful that Muslims serve this country too, love this country too and die for this country. That in a nutshell is part of why McShame is losing this election.

The popular vote means nothing in America, unless it is a Democracy. Federal elections are a Republic, in other words, your vote elects somebody else to vote for you. While Obama might be 14, 15, or whatever it is now ahead of McCain, in swing states, McCain either leads by a wide margin, or is behind by less than 3 points.

What is our Government doing and who's going to pay for this. Now, we have some States claiming the money in their Unemployment Compensation Funds is running out. As far as taxes, the money for the bailout which was an unexpected expense has to come from someone and John doesn't want to tax the Fat Cats. It is going to come from the Middle Class.

Obama's claims that McCain is leaving the middle-class behind cracks me up!!! I'm smack dab middle-class and I don't feel like I'll be left behind. Obama claiming that McCain will raise my middle-income's taxes.. He has done no such thing. Leaving my tax bracket unchanged certainly isn't raising it... I'm no math scholar but I'm sure that 0% of of something equals nothing.

While it was probably counterproductive for McCain to defend Obama at his own rally's, it shows the man character. McCain has never been a 'win at any cost' politician, that's why he lost to Bush in 2000 despite being the FAR better candidate. Tough to attack the guy for being a man of principal when that's precisely what most of us on both sides of the isle claim we WANT in a President.

The wheels are falling off John's campaign.He has no fire left in his belly. I think his problem is that he is a compromiser, he always talks of working across the aisle. This might go back to his time as a POW. He never cracked, was never a traitor but he must have compromised in order to live. He doesn't seem to want to fight, just compromise. All because she didn't work from the state office, but instead her home one. Wouldn't you like to work from your own personal location AND make 50 grand a year because you chose not to go all the way to work? I know I'd take that deal.

BTW, it took Barack exactly 24 hours to go from stating that Israel had a right to exist to stating the exact opposite. Obama is veiling his true persona for now, but don't expect it to stay dormant when policies start forming from within the white house.

I am not sure whether Barack professes to be a muslim or not, but I know this much --- He does not belong to a church that professes to follow Christ's teachings, hence you can't accurately refer to the church as a "Christian" church.

I will repeat what I have already explained. The following is a statement by James Cone that he authored:

Christ (a) never taught racism or racial elitism and (b) never used hate as a tool. The fact that Obama has lied directly that he did not know that the church was about that and lied regarding his knowledge of the agenda held by the council on foreign relations (a group of which, at least his wife is a known memeber and he has even admitted to have delivered private, personal addresses to) should not surprise anyone. The man and his running mate are both trained liars (read LAWYERS) and the DNC has been shoving lawyers down America's throat for the past 7 elections (except Gore, who dropped out of law school to go directly into politics). This should be an unsettling fact to the people of the US, as I do not know anyone who prefers to be lied to by a career liar.
