Bay Area Weekly Sports Wrap-Up

Here's the weekly sports wrap-up for the week August 12-19:

San Francisco 49ers - The Niners defeated the Raiders last night 26-21, and last Monday night lost to the Broncos 17-13.  Last night's game saw good performances from QB Alex Smith (8/12, 106  yards, 1 TD)  WR Ashley Lelie (4 catches, 57 yards, 1 TD) and rookie RB Thomas Clayton (10 rushes, 42 yards, 1 TD).  However, the defense ran into trouble against Raiders RB Lamont Jordan, who had no problem running around the defensive line.  3 starters on the line did not play, and the second team played into the third quarter.  Jordan had 67 yards rushing.

Bay Area Sports Weekly Wrap Up

Here my weekly rundown of Bay Area teams, minus the Kings and the Warriors.

 San Francisco Giants - The Giants are in a bit of a post-756 free fall right now, having lost 4 of 5 since the event.  Today they dropped another to the Pirates 5-0.  Tom (or Tim, I can't remember) Gorzelanny (sp?) pitched a complete game shutout to shut down the feeble Giants offense.  Bonds had the day off.

 Oakland A's - The A's, too, are free-falling, they lost again today to the Tigers 11-6.  They are 13 games out of first place, and trail the Mariners by 10 1/2.  Fans have yet to see the annual second half surge, accompanied by the customary playoff collapse.  Unfortunately, even that seems out of the question this year.
