Don't want to jinx it...

So no further match reviews at this time. I'll post the final results of matches in the "Toon Army Dispatches" section over to the right, without any commentary.

Please refer to Sky Sports or BBC Sports for the direct from England news, or the soccer page here at SI for the second-hand stuff... :-p

Match Review: Birmingham City v Newcastle United, 17 March.

Well, much as with the last match, I really don't feel like writing much...

To his credit, Keegan came out with an attacking 4-4-2, with Martins playing essentially as either left-wing forward or left-wing midfield, depending on the circumstances. I would've ditched the 4-4-2 and just used a 4-3-3, with Viduka as a traditional "centre forward" with his back to goal, and Owen and Martins as "second strikers" playing slightly behind, at the edge of the box, and wreaking havoc...

Match Review: Liverpool v Newcastle United, Sat. 8 March

*sigh*

Keegan trots out a 4-5-1, presumably with the aim of "nicking" (stealing) a draw (tie) and a precious point. Little Mike Owen left all alone up front, even though it's clear that the existing midfield can't really help him out much, so he might as well have been considered a 6th midfielder under the circumstances.

Even with an upcoming Champions League match against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday, Liverpool start both Gerrard and Torres...

To whomever voted "5th-7th" in the poll: I admire your optimism, but question your sanity ;-) Current league position is 14th with only eight games remaining... I voted "12th-14th" myself...

I've edited all my blog entries (here, in SoccerNation, and on my own page) so the formatting is there. That should make for easier reading--if not particularly pleasant reading (for me, in any case).

Re: the new poll...1st-4th is not an option. No way. 5th-7th would be wildly optimistic... 1st-4th would indicate insanity ;-)

Result of the poll (it's been up for about a month):
"Do you agree with the hiring of Kevin Keegan as manager of Newcastle United?"

YES: 66% NO: 33% MAYBE: 0%

NEWCASTLE ROCKS!
RE: the "Kevin Keegan as manager" poll, I've voted "YES!" if for no other reason than he has a second chance to prove himself worthy to the rest of the EPL, since he already has proven himself to a good portion of the Toon Army...
