Comeback Kids

Jon Lester wasn't the only member of the Red Sox that came back yesterday against the Devil RaysBut, Mike Lowell, Jason Varitek and Coco Crisp helped the Red Sox comeback from a 1-0 deficit with one out and nobody on base. Mike Lowell came up and drove a 2-0 pitch up and over the green monster to tie the game.  When the ball landed it seemed as if it was a playoff game in 2004. As if we're still alive.  With 2 outs now Jason Varitek battled and ground rule doubled down Pesky's pole. If he hooked the ball to the right a little he could've won the game or tripled.  But, it didn't matter for Coco Crisp as he singled over the second baseman's head.  Eric Gagne earned himself his first Red Sox win.  Jon Lester who would've been the Red Sox tough luck loser giving up a sac fly to lose the game was relieved by his Red Sox teamates.

SOXCESS

The Red Sox just defeated the Colorado Rockies by the score of 2-1.   Tim Wakefield pitched a gem allowing only 1 run and 4 hits in 8 innings pitched. Although he didn't recieve the run support he would have liked it was enough.  It started in the 3rd inning with a leadoff double by Julio Lugo who bat in the 9th slot?  Yes the ninth slot because of his recent struggles a the plate.  Kevin Youkilis eventually drove him in with a double of his own.  The rest of the scoring came in the eighth inning.  Colorado led off the inning with a double until he was driven in by Torrealba, to tie the game.  In the bottom of the inning, Dustin Pedroia led off with a single.  Who was than pinch ran for by Alex Cora.  Ortiz than hit a double to left that hit off the short wall.  Manny was walked intentionally.  Than J.D. Drew hit a sac fly to take the lead.  John Papelbon closed the game out for a Red Sox win.

Where was the offense?

The Red Sox finished the series against the Diamondbacks on a bad note today losing by a score of 5-1.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched against Randy Johnson to start the game.  Both pitchers pitched exceptional but Johnson was a tad bit better.  Johnson left the game holding on to a 2-1 lead.  The 8th inning was the inning that changed the game with a lead off hit  then walk.  Timlin came in to solve the problem but instead made it worse with an error on a throw to first scoring two runs.  One more run scored that inning.  The Red Sox would eventually fall 5-1.  The Red Sox went 3-4 on the road trip and pitched exceptional throughout it all.  Games that could've have been won by the Sox but the lack of hitting from the Red Sox hurt.  That's why I'm asking "Where's the offense?"  The Red Sox have an off day tomorrow before playing the Colorado Rockies at Fenway Park.
