Well, we have wrapped up the season... good one in my opinion, but there is still a lot that needs to happen between now and next season for the Avs to further there development.
We will go by position.
Center-No changes. With Stastny and Duchene leading the charge, the first to lines are centered by some real playmakers. O'Rielly and Yelle are ideal for what you want your 3rd and 4th line center's to look like. And worst case scenario, Mueller is a natural center.
Wings-Upgrade slightly-Galiardi, Stewart, Hedjuk, McCleod, Mueller, Jones and Yip are guaranteed a spot next year. That leaves…

The Colorado Avalanche drafted Matt Duchene. They traded away Ryan Smyth. The long tenured leader and all time leading scorer hung up his skates. All they had between the pipes were career backups. The Avs were primed to finish in the bottom 5 of the NHL. It was a forgone conclusion and many (myself included) watched most of the season with the intension of seeing "what the future looked like." Well that future is now, and it is knocking on the doorstep of NHL history. The league's youngest team just stole home ice advantage from a #1 and don't look like they want to stop this season yet.

Peter Budaj is a good man with great morals, and a is great at supporting the starting netminder. And if that won games, he would be the toast of the league. But as it stands... he is terrible. He can't even be a good back up. It is time to sevre the ties with him, and bring Tyler Wieman up. I watched him play in Double A hockey, and while I know that the talent jump is tremendous, he had a tendancy to take over games. I'm not predicting the next Roy or anything, but he is good and it is worth taking a shot with him.

Whatta game man.
For sure, I mean, I would never wish an injury on an Avalanche player, but Shattenkirk looks like he would never give his spot up.
I wasn't worried, either way they are a young team with so much potential. I like their chances to challenge for and win a few cups in years to come with the core they have.

I just can't wait to see Shattenkirk play too this year.

I knew everyone was reading too much into the preseason. Once it starts, they are ready to go.
4-3 Avs, very nice.

Nice, 3-2 Avs after 2 against the Hawks. So far I'm liking the start to the season :)
