Any thoughts from true intelligent fans that actually follow this great Conference? Not just fans of one team that have no clue how other teams in the SEC are playing.
I believe the East is anyone's game. I'm not sure how the Gators are going to be with a new QB (even if it is Tebow) and a lot of new Def. I think Georgia has nowhere but up to go after the disaster of a season they had in '06 and the Vols could be a threat anytime. With USC and Kentucky having some surprising recruits and some upsets they could even be in the mix. Maybe not for the Champ Game but could mess a contenders season up. Sorry Vandy no comment.
The West will be very interesting. LSU is the favorite but I am not convinced of their QB situation either. A lot of hype from SI and ESPN for this QB but I believe there is a lot of ball to be played. Auburn is solid and I think they will have another good season (as sick as that makes me feel) Roll Tide!. Arkansas is a toss-up. They had a great season in '06 but honestly they got lucky a few times, no offense intended. The Tide will be better than the media believes but not perfect as some of the fans that are not being honest with themselves think. It will be tough for the players to adopt and be successful at a new system from a new Coach first time around. However I believe that Bama would have been better in '07 regardless of who the Coach was. They have a lot of underrated talent like the QB, that might surprise a few people. As for the two Miss teams. This might shock some of you but if you have been following them you will agree. I believe the Coach for the Rebels is turning it around. I think that they will be a contender in the next few years if everything keeps moving the way it has. He is a great recruiter and pretty good play caller. They have put up some good fights against some strong teams. On the other hand Miss State???? I can remember when that name meant good football. There is not many people that can say that. I hope that we can say that again in the future.
Crimson Tide fan first and forever, SEC fan for life!
My picks for the championship game:
Florida 17 vs. LSU 35
I'm picking the same score but I believe it will be Georgia losing to LSU. Regardless, it's gonna be a great year!
God this hurts! LSU over _________. Hard to call, but LSU is loaded with experience, especially if Flynn can come in and not miss a beat at the QB position.
This conference is so good top to bottom, even Vandy may pull an upset somewhere along the way, the SEC Conference Championship game has two teams that are as good as any two teams in the BCS Championship.
Roll Tide!
I wouldn't count Vanyd out so quickly, especially if you are willing ot give Kentucky some credit. Vandy may be 4th in the East this year, but as usual, it will be a three horse race in the East.
I don't think the West will be as competitive as it usually is - mainly due to the fact that Arkansas has to drop-off next year, which leaves LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. Alabama is a couple years away from Saban't recruits making a difference, but they'll be a bowl team next year. The LSU - Auburn game should determine the West champion, I think, although LSU has the talent and favorable schedule to lose to Auburn and run the table the rest of the year. I don't think Auburn could do the same thing.

South Florida Tide Fan -
I read your comments with interest. Here are some quick thoughts....
The East? I look for this one to ba a surprise. Florida will likely not repeat..its just too hard and teams like Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee will likely be very good and I look for Florida to come in second to one of them.
The West? Man, Bama will be much improved. As you said, anyone coaching that team would do well but I think Saban will make a big difference. LSU is the favorite, but how will they respond under the national spotlight? I think they might even loose in Tuscaloosa. Auburn? Loaded and experienced and I think they will rise to the top of the West by December...
I think Auburn vs Georgia will play for the SEC Championship with Auburn sneaking out a wind... say, Auburn 21 Georgia 17....
In any event, the SEC will be the cream of the national crop this year... Think about it.. can another conference line up with LSU, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and a much imporved South Carolina and Bama? Even Vandy could be tough on any given Saturday...
What a conference!!!!
I agree with those who think this year's SEC race is wide open. LSU is probably the favorite, but there are several good teams that could end up on top. And unlike most years, some of the traditional "bottom feeders" could rise up and get an upset or two.
In the East, I see Florida coming out on top, but not by much. Tennesseee, Georgia, and maybe even Kentucky will be factors. Wouldn't surprise me if we have a two- or three-way tie at the top.
In the West, LSU has to be the favorite, but Auburn is solid and Alabama will be playing with new intensity under Saban. And what about defending West champ Arkansas? They still have McFadden, and if they can overcome the internal soap opera that has dominated the program since late last season, they have a shot to return to Atlanta.
I can't remember a season where so many teams have a legitimate shot at the SEC title game as this year. Should be a great season!
Just too many very good teams this year in the SEC....
Honestly, LSU, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia might all be BCS quality teams and finish in the top 10 . Too bad we gotta play each other so much...
Lsu will win the west and tennesse will win the east. then Lsu will win it all
If LSU doesn't win the west, its because Les Miles can't coach. All LSU's hard games will be at home this year. Plus the Suger Bowl is the NC game, and we know how the tigers play there.
The East on the other hand, is a completely different story. I say watch out for Georgia., their game at Tennessee could go a long way to pinking the East champ. Tennessee's success will rely heavily on Ainge's abilty. I think Florida has a tough road schedule this year, @LSU @Kentucky @Georgia in the month of October.
Projection: Florida vs. LSU
LSU WINS
Hey Tigator, Florida doesn't go to Georgia, the game is played in Jacksonville. Anyway, as a Gator fan, I am ready to admit defeat. Georgia will win the east. I don't think LSU will win the west though, too much hype. Remember three years ago when Tennessee was ranked 2nd in the country and finished the season 5-7 or something like that? LSU could be heading the same way. My pick for the West is Auburn. Auburn over Georiga, 31-21
Okay, I'm late to the party and it's unfair to rag on your predictions (which were actual predictions - I have two weeks' games to base this on). But I'm here now, so let's load & lock.
Gotta say that at the begining of the season I saw it as LSU vs Florida/Georgia winner, but now I'm not sure about that at all.
I don't think (hope) LSU will succumb to the hype. We've had high expectations and poor showings in the past, but this team "feels" different. They don't seem to be reading too much of their own press. I think the Tigers should go 8-0 in conference, but there will be at least two squeakers.
By that logic, all the eastern teams that play LSU will have a loss (FLA, SC, UK), and UGA and Vandy already do.
8-0 LSU vs. 7-1 UT in the SEC CG. LSU 38, UT 14.
I dont see Either LSU or Florida losing. If they meet, I believe LSU will win. any other team i guess would be Tennesee... alot depends on the game in two weeks- if LSU wins, tennesee has a shot, and in my opinion, all bets are off. If florida wins, LSU will be looking for revenge in the championship. I think that the tigers will give it to the trojans for the title, while florida knocks off whichever pushover gets thrown at them in the sugar bowl...
Clearly we all have some hindsight on the first few games of the season, so now most people's predictions have changed. I wonder what ya'll think about the SEC West. I have to hope for Bama to win out. All the rest of our games will be big tests (not that I don't think we'll beat LA Monroe). I think LSU and Auburn are both playing good football right now. But I think both they and Mississippi State are beatable. What do ya'll think the Bama-LSU game is shaping up like? I'm usually a realist but I have to hope for Bama. Bama 21 LSU 17
LSU vs Florida.
Prediction. 2OT LSU over Florida 28 21
