I play soccer and think it is great. But I have never really payed attention to the pro game. I understand that the English Premier League seems to be the, well, premier league. I did some research on it and read the backgrounds of the squads, but I don't really know who to root for. Any suggestions? (It sucks that the season is ending, I am pumped to finally follow soccer next year.)

Look, I'll tell you what I've told dyhard and a few others. Liverpool is the most historic team in the world. We have won the most titles in England, and have 5 Champions League trophies to show off. We are the best and most historic out there. My main suggestion for you is to not root for the fabricated team known as Chelsea. They have no history and were only built on money. Pick a team with prestige, like Liverpool.

Personally I am a Chelsea fan, and Keeper, I respect your thoughs on Liverpools History, but you shouldn't pick a team just because they have a lot of history. As an example I would use the Tampa Bay Rays, they have little to no history, no championships, nothing, and they are a great team to root for. I am fan of the Rays when they are not playing the Sox. Back to soccer though, I chose to be a Chelsea fan because when I first got into the Premier League, my favorite soccer player to watch was Drogba, and so I became a fan of his team. I would suggest that you pick a team that your favorite player (that plays in the Premier) is on and learn to love the team for what it is, even if they do suck (i.e. Derby)....some good teams to root for might include Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd., West Ham, Man City, or Aston Villa.

I also agree with CJ. Pick someone that you feel is one of your favs. Gerrard was one of mine, so I easily picked 'Pool. And CJ, you probably will need a new fav. team 'cause Drogba is probably done with Stamford Bridge.

It sounds corny/cheesey, but follow your heart on this one. Maybe wait to pick a favourite until sometime next season after you've watched a few games. Who knows, you might just find yourself suddenly rooting for a team without even thinking about it.

Then again [shameless plug], you could always just support Blackburn Rovers - a club that will give any side a tight game, hasn't been built on big money, and has a few top quality players.

D'A
Play the Fifa video games, and which ever team you like to play as the most, root for them.

Or follow a few games and pick out players you like and then follow their teams.

thats how i picked my fav teams. and im not kidding about playing Fifa either. In the Fifa world cup 06 game i played as spain, then when Fifa 07 came out i noticed that a lot of the players from the spanish team were on Valencia, so i played as Valencia and now i am a fan. Also, I fell in love with Steven Gerrard and Clint Dempsey and became a Liverpool and Fulham fan.

If you make me choose a team in the Premiership, I'll take Fulham, but my heart lies with my icon.

That's probably the reason why they've almost been relegated two years in a row. LOL.

Shut UP Keeper.

Eintracht Frankfurt's been doing the same thing in the Bundesliga... until this year... top half of the table, I believe...
