Will Joe Torre really help in LA? Or was his success driven by the Yankees high payroll?
I think his success was driven by two things: 1) He's a fantastic manager. 2) The payroll.
As far as what will go down in LA, I dont think he can take them to the playoffs in his first season. But definately in 2009.
I agree he was backed up by a huge payroll. Also they wont make the playoffs i can imgime some of those players arent too thrilled bout Torre being there..
Torre will make a significant difference to the Dodger organization. However he doesn't have the roots of great players set in just yet. Give him a season and the Dodgers will be on top of the NL West....which won't take too much effort, all they have to do is play a few games over 500 ball
I believe Mr Torre will bring back the integrity the Dodgers once had as an organization. Rome was not built in a day, but with the influence of people like the great Tommy Lasorda, I thing in two years, the Dodgers, headed by Mr Torre, will be back on the map. :)
I don't think Torre benefited from the payroll of the Yankees. The Evil Empire didn't win a World Series with A-Rod, Giambi or Sheffield. Los Angeles is going to benefit from Torre's managing during the game--situational. LA might be the team to beat in the NL, with regards to the New York Mets of course.
