While I have said for over 8 months that 2009 is the year of the Auburn national championship, I feel like 2008 is setting quite nicely. Sure, the bowl game went into overtime but Auburn beat Clemson all over that field. I thought Auburn made Clemson and the ACC look inferior. Now imagine if Burns/Todd/Caudle blossoms in the new offense after Spring and Fall...how strong is Auburn then. Can you say back to back championships?
no i cant. that is a pipe dream bro.
I love Auburn, but I just can't see them winning the SEC West much less the Nat. Championship next year.
Give them a year in the new offense and then give the D a year in the new defence and by 09 they will have a better shot. Besides that winning the National Championship is a terribly difficult thing to do for any SEC team because they all beat the crap out of each other all year long. Granted there have been two in a row from the SEC, but on both occasions there was debate on whether either LSU or Florida even deserved to be in the games. That being said whenever there is an SEC team in the big game there isn't that great of a chance the SEC team is going to lose because they are prepared. The SEC is already the playoffs that so man people are screaming for in college football.
Back to back? That is a bit of a stretch. What little of the new offense we saw in action at the peach bowl was certainly a breath of fresh air after 2 years of Brandon "Sucks" Cox at the helm. That being said, there are still major question marks on both sides of the ball. After the spring game, there are a number of questions that have yet to be answered. The first team defense gave up 30 points. That could mean that our offense is really that good. On the flip side, it could mean that Muschamp is sorely missed.
Another important consideration is the recent influx of top tier coaching to the SEC west. Say what you will about Petrino (as an Atlanta native and an Auburn alum, God knows I have) but the man knows how to win when it comes to college ball. Orgeron was a joke at Ole Miss, but Nutt has shown time and again that he can win when it matters, and has spoiled more than his fair share of Auburn seasons (not to mention he managed to steal our top RB recruit). Throw in the fact that we play Tennessee the next two seasons, and the fact that we always end the season with Richt's formidable bulldogs and the Tide, which is rapidly rising under Saban's guidance, and the prospect of a championship, though always there, appears slim at best.
Personally, as an Auburn alum currently enrolled in the University of Georgia's School of Law, I've dealt with enough crap from the Dawgs over the past two seasons that I would be content with pulling out a win against UGA before I graduate.
I was in Auburn for the 2004 season when they went undefeated. Pre-season there was alot of hype but you still can't predict anything in the SEC. The LSU game came down to an incomplete pass, one fo the most nail biting Auburn games I've ever seen. Even with that win there was still a long road ahead. But we prevailed because we know how to win in the SEC. We win on the road. We can come back from deficits. So please sleep! I always have confidence that we can win every game and every Auburn player and true fan should feel the same way. When are boys do get into trouble the fans we'll help push them through like they did in the 2006 Florida game who were the National Champions that year.Jordan-Hare Stadium was vibrating with support. So sleep! I'm not saying were going to win the National Championship, but we have just as good a chance as Georgia, Florida, LSU or whoever they have over-hyped as usual. We will rally and you will hear the battle-cry of War Damn Eagle!
2008 is a bit of a stretch, but Auburn will recieve a BCS bowl bid this coming up year, Georgia will probably get it this year.
But 2009 is all AUBURN.
Back to 2008, I think it will be great when Clemson beats Alabama to start off the year just one more reason to post Auburn better than Bama
