Monte Kiffin had a number of head coach options if you research back for the past few yrs, but Monte never wanted the head coach position, Monte loves the D and he turn down all the head coach jobs he was offered. Some people love what they do enough to base there career on just that and nothing more, Monte is a arguably the best D coach in NFL history.
Why switch and try to be the head coach if your legacy has been built around being a great D coach?

In NFL History?
That's placing a lot of stress on the "arguably". But few outside Tampa Bay would actually argue it. Kiffin wasn't even the best D coach of his time. But he was close.

Can you name a D coach who has consecutive top 10 D's in the past 10 or 13 yrs other than Kiffin, no because there isnt any, don't get it twisted Kiffin was considered as one of the best if not the best D coach in NFL history, need proof do your research.
A lil research for you!!
Monte Kiffin (born February 29, 1940 in Lexington, Nebraska) is an American football coach. He is widely considered to be one of the preeminent defensive coordinators in modern football, as well as one of the greatest defensive coordinators in NFL history. Father of the often imitated ???Tampa Cover 2??? defense, Kiffin's philosophy is one of the most influential in modern college and pro football.
He currently serves as defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Volunteers, where his son Lane Kiffin was named head coach on December 2, 2008. He previously served 26 years as an NFL assistant coach, including 13 years as defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His defensive units have finished ranked in the top 10 in points allowed and yards allowed 10 times during that period, an NFL record.
The guy who won us the SB was the dumb Oakland coach who didn't change any of the plays from when Gruden was there.

Yeah so you say, Monte has been with the bucs for 13 years and 10 of them the bucs made it to the top ten, and 6 of them they were the number 1 D in the NFL.

The O didnt win us the Super Bowl! Fact, the D is who won us the Bowl, so by Gruden not changing the plays when Dungy left has little or nothing to do with the D plays. The D plays come from Kiffin and Kiffin only and thats what won us our Super Bowl.
Sorry for late reply guys but yes I agree that it was Kiffin who won us that superbowl...
Gruden taught Rich Gannon everything he knew.
Then Gruden taught his T.B secondary how to spot Gannon pump faking, alas six interceptions.
Monte Kiffin will be sorely missed in TB.

He's the head coach at the happy valley retierment home.

If that is true, thats one team and one QB. Monte Kiffin still gets the credit due to the fact that it was his team that got them to the dance in the first place, and his plays alone that keep him in the top 10 D's for most of his career here in tampa.
He's the head coach at the happy valley retierment home.{mr mojo risen}
LOL............, Although that was very funny, It was also screwed up homie lol!!! I got nothing but respect for the guy and he deserves that man, so please don't bash dude, he's the best thing out of tampa in the coaching division!!!

I commented to this above!!
I think most would agree that Kiffin is among the finest defensive minds in NFL history and his defense changed the game in a manner similar to Bill Walsh's offense. That being said, I'd have to agree that Dick LeBeau has had every bit the same level of impact and Jim Johnson had a large impact as well.
Kiffin's D may have won you a couple playoff games and possibly the Super Bowl game itself but you never get there without Dungy's foundation and hard work done years before. Dungy changed the culture in Tampa forever and that impact cannot be understated.
Dungy drafted players according to How Kiffin wanted the defense to be run.... Kiffin said it himself..... for the tampa 2 to work you need fast and linebackers who can cover out side and middle since the middle linebacker plays deep...... SO with that in mind..... Kiffin is a MASTERMIND!!!!!....and Defense is what made Tampa Bay

As stated by -Buc'em Up- perfectly put! Dungy Did not create that D, Without Monte Kiffin there wouldve never been a superbowl.
Thats not to take anything away from Dungy, he did bring alot to the team, players and all, but Monte Kiffins play book and coach exsperience is what created the Buc's D and that like i said before is what got us to the dance.
The D is what Tampa Fan also focused on, because thats all we knew, is that the D was almost always among the best.
Let me streach that THIS IN NO WAY IS UNDERSTATING DUNGY!!!! I just believe it's time to give credit were credit is due.
