NFL  > Cleveland Browns  > Training Camp

I attended training camp today which harvested a good turnout amongst Browns fans. It was great to see all of the players out there working hard. Although it is nearly impossible to gauge how good the team really is just watching drills, I observed a couple positive things:

Brady Quinn vs Derek Anderson:

Both quarterbacks seemed to get equal reps throwing and executing running plays. Brady Quinn didn't really make any mistakes (which doesn't really say much considering the no-pressure throws), but DA still looks like a bum to me. In offense vs defense drills DA threw one pick to the secondary. Also, during mis-snap drills where each QB has to pick up a bad snap and throw it to a WR about 10 yard out, DA showed what he can do by firing the ball about 5 feet over the Wr's head-- reminds me of how inconsistent his throws are. In any case, this "competition" is Quinn's to lose.

Rookies:

Mack was the very first player on the field for training camp and hussled all day in drills. Jumped the snap in line drills and had to run a lap but looks pretty solid.

Robiskie made a nice grab during Off v Def drills catching a 10-15 yard slant and taking it to the house.

Massaquoi looked fine in his drills. The guy looks like a young Plaxico Burress with big play ability.

Veikune looked pretty impressive in LB drills. his footowork was on par with some of the db's which is exciting to see expecially because he is such a beast. In QB rush drills he made Jamal Lewis look like a choir boy as he rushed the Qb and was virtually untouched.

Maiva also looked very good in drills. During the QB rush drill he absolutely layed out FB Ali to get to the QB.

Braylon Edwards:

He was sidelined without pads the entire practice. Started the day on the bike and then practiced his jump starts with a trainer. He looked like he was in good spirits and didn't seem to be hobbling.

Mangini runs a pretty strict practice compared to Davis and Crennel. You should all come out and see the new browns
