NFL  > Philadelphia Eagles  > Death, departure, devastating injuries...concern?
August 9, 2009, 07:51 PM
Lately everytime I check in on the Eagles, unfortunately the news is not so good.
Not to be disrespectful to J.J. and his family, but his presence with this team will be sorely missed. Some beloved players have departed (Dawk, Tra, Buck). Now the injury bug is biting...and biting hard. Losing the starting, and rising star LB Bradley for the season, as well as the very athletic rookie TE Ingram, who has been nothing short of impressive since he was selected (even though he was a risk w/ prior injury). Even pro bowl RG/RT Shawn Andrews seems to be having back trouble, and cannot seem to get back on the field after reporting in great spirits, and physical condition. Even a run in with the law for a player or two.
The injuries are mounting, other players who are on the PUP list need to heal up and get back to practices. The Eagles have not even played a single pre-season football game and already bodies are dropping like flies. Is this a dark cloud above a team that had a super off-season with trades, free agency, and the draft?
On paper the O-Line looked to be one of the best in the league, and has not practiced as a whole once. Key words "on paper".
The feeling going into camp was a feeling of excitement, new pieces to the puzzle, old faces resuming their posts, and away we go.
There are two days left of camp...and to be honest, I'm a bit concerned.
A long way from panic mode, but just concerned. Anyone else agree or disagree?

What will Done-again McNibble and Jabba-the-Reid do now????? Why, sit down to a nice steaming bowl of Chunky Soup, of course!

August 13, 2009  12:30 PM ET

All those sugar-pants players better watch out. Jabba-the-Reid might get hungry and eat them.... Or have McVomit spew Chunky Clam Chowder all over them.

phillyfan5 -- No comment about the great Eagles braintrust since the Mike Vick signing. Where is all the superbowl talk now? Where is all the smack about how great the Eagles organization is now?? Where is your buddy from Texas? This signing shows me that the Eagles are desperate.

Vick?? Really?? Wow your team has become the joke of the NFL. You make the Raiders look like a classy organization

Come on, they could have brought in Charlie Manson and still be classier than the Raiders.

It's sad when Al Davis wouldn't touch the guy.

What are you talking about anyway. No comment? My super-bowl talk? My buddy from Texas?
That is an example of diarrhea of the mouth. I have commented on this already on another thread. I...like a lot of other fans, am still soaking it in, and still trying to make sense of it.
Do they need Mike Vick?
In my opinion no, even though the injury bug is is biting...I feel they have enough talent to still be successful this year. (If the injuries stop mounting) Superbowl contenders? Yes.
And that wasn't smack talk about the organization. Those were facts. Philly used to be a doormat for awhile. Since Lurie bought the team, since Reid became the head coach, then McNabb being drafted, the franchise has done a 180. With the exception of a championship, the last decade has been a nice run for the Eagles. 09 was looking promising, but like noted above (read next time), the passing of Johnson, and more injuries to key personnel could derail a team built this off-season for nothing short of winning the Superbowl. Whether they signed Vick or not. The offense has so many weapons, but the o-line is questionable now.
The defense has some question marks, but should still be better than the average.
I unlike you, have not lost all hope for my beloved Eagles.
I wont deny that this move was a shocker, and it took a lot of balls to attempt this, and try to make it work...from every possible front. This is going to be one hell of a circus, a rather unexpected and unwanted media frenzy. It's going to make T.O. doing sit-ups in his driveway look like educational TV. Anyone that knows me, and I have voiced my opinions about what Vick has done on the boards...knows my stance on it.
Desperate???
Debatable.
Oh yeah...what's up Bull_Shirt?

I know how ya feel Philly............seems like if it's not one thing, it's 6 others happening. I wonder if Barnum and Bailey are making the rounds with NFL teams? We had our circus for awhile, and now it's left town, heading elsewhere. First stop.....Philadelphia? Nothing personal against Vick, but damn the negative attention that's brewing.

Good luck, my friend.

BTW, Peacho, his buddy is still around. What do I have to do with anything anyway? Just because we don't let team affiliations affect friendship? We can carry on a conversation without getting into a pissing contest? That's for children and teenagers with raging hormones.

Besides, Phillyfan5 has no control over what the Eagles do, much like Jerry Jones won't listen to me.

I will admit tho, that this signing has me befuddled too, but then Jerry Jones signing Owens had me thinking Jones had lost his marbles. But, the fact is, we as fans cannot do anything about personnel on any team. So, throwing all this up in Phillyfan5's face, is a waste of time. If he could change it, don't you think he would? All we can do is watch the games, and hope for the best.

The firestorm is here my friend.
I'm wondering what level this will escalate to. Vick is going to be under a microscope, more so than any NFL player I can remember (unless Stallworth resumes playing next year). I hope they mean what they said, Vick and Philly, about him being proactive in the community and working with organizations who try to stop cruelty to animals.
If Vick does not attempt these promises, with enthusiasm and effort, this thing will get ugly.
There is no tolerance for false promises like the ones Mark McGuire made, then went into hiding.
Hey Bull_Shirt...if I go to Texas for the last reg. season game (vs. philly), with just my draft hat, and an Eagles T-shirt, will I get a beer poured on me because...
A. I'm an Eagles fan
B. Everyone will think I supported the Vick deal (even though I may not have)
C. Texans will think I enjoy dog fighting, and attend dog fights
D. That's how Texans roll
E. All of the above

I couldn't even begin to tell you how the Eagles fans will react when Vick takes the field. I know they boo'ed Santa Claus, and cheered when Michael Irvin was carried off the field on a stretcher. Will this with Vick be as the two instances I just mentioned? I don't know, but it could be worse with riots and such. Time will tell.

I can't speak for all people here, much as you can't with Eagles fans, but if you came down here and watched the game here at my home, for instance, you'd be welcome, win, lose, or draw. Human relations towards fellow humans are more important than sports competitions in my opinion. I can't tell you what would happen if you go to the new stadium now. But I reckon we'll be finding out. But, the last game of the season, things may have settled down by then.

Well thanks for the hospitality, you Cowboys fans are usually pretty even keeled.
Having 5 championships prob. helps alleviate the stress and anxiety associated with prof. sports when it comes to winning (as far as the common fan is concerned).
I'm sure just going to the supermarket with an Eagles hat on will be an adventure now.
Well gotta run...time to mow the lawn.
Always a pleasure Bull_Shirt!

lol.....no, not all of us are "pretty well keeled". We have our share of bashers too.

We have one who rides a short yellow bus, and loves to spew hate, poison and discontent, and if he hasn't been by here yet, he will. I've tried calling him out on what he does, but he ignores me. I think his former name was Free Pound Cake, but not sure. I know he used worthlessberger once, when those allegations on Big Ben first came out.

I want you to know something Philly. Although your team has yet to win a SB, they have been there.............twice. Be proud of that fact, because there are some who have yet to go.
It's kind of like that man who complained of having no shoes..............until he met another man who had no feet. The Eagles at least have the feet.
I used to get PO'd all the time when the 'Boys lost, especially to division rivals. Not any more. It's beyond my control anyway insofar as coaching, playing and all of that. So, what I do now, is enjoy watching the game and for what it is.........entertainment. Of course, I still root for the 'Boys, but tomorrow is always going to come, regardless of winning, losing or drawing.

I enjoy watching other teams play, and have seen some great players and plays. For instance, Gale Sayers of the Bears scored 6 TD's in one game, and the field was a muddy mess, and people could barely walk in it. Sayers was running in it. That was a sight to see. Barry Sanders, Leroy Kelly, Jim Brown................on and on. You should enjoy the game for what it is, and expand your horizons.

Eventually, and it could be this year, the 'Birds will again reach the SB and win. I'd like nothing better than the 'Boys to win and stay even with Pittsburgh, but that may never happen. So, I enjoy the game itself, and the different teams, until that day does come.

You should too.................................:-)
