MLB  > Chicago Cubs  > What happened to the Chicago Cubs?
August 11, 2009, 12:20 PM
It was just a few short months ago that opening day was beckoning, and everyone in baseball knew the Cubs were gonna run away with the National League Central, and contend for the World Series.

Now here it is in August and we can see that we were very wrong. Albiet a rush of injuries to players cannot be planned for, but that isn't it. These guys look like they don't care anymore. The only person on the team that shows any emotion other than the manager is the psychotic right fielder that everyone hates. At least he gets angry when he messes up which is actually happening less lately. Wouldn't it be nice if the rest of his over paid buddies could erect there heads from where ever they have dug them into and start playing like him.

We'll on the bright-side, after our series you can start the season over and start winning some games again...lol.

too many players on cubs that hit when its too late, not too many clutch hitters, soriano does not think team always swinging for fences when all we need is base hit, soto chokes also, all of them can hit,but not in clutch 90% of time, baker four hits nobody on with runners on strikeout.,player after player same result, everybody should relax and not try to kill every pitch,go with pitch let things happen. thank you ken r.

selfish players (soriano, milton bradley), horrible approach to hitting, injuries, a coach who has become more of a novelty and a joke rather than an actual coach, a losing atttiude that will be very difficult to overcome (similar to the red sox curse, except they actually have an exceptional coach/team concept and they had the yankees constantly pushing them to achieve success)

i literally would not be surprised if the cubs do not win the WS for the next 100 years

The season started!

I've been a Cub fan for many years (some would say too many). What I don't see this year is a manager who really gives a damn; a team that has only 3-4 players that can be counted upon to produce; and, an all-star cast of players who are simply not producing as part of the team. Soriano needs to go first. He can't play left field worth a damn. Gregg is my second pick to hit the streets (along this line what was wrong with keeping Wood?). Finally, not giving up would help. These guys look like they've already lost it all. Being realistic, they probably have. I've been optimistic about the Cubs for a long time, but I'm not sure I can sustain the optimism for the remainder of this year. I will say as well, that both Dusty Baker and Lou Piniella have spent much of their time defending poor performance. Time to kick ass and take names!

Same thing that happens to them every year....they think they are going to win the world series.....All the Cubs fan's say "this is the year" then they actually have to PLAY the game and the cub fans say "Next year is the year" and then there is peace in the world lol

Lou Piniella stopped giving a damn. Jim Hendry decided to employ the worst scouts in the history of Major League Baseball. Our players really didn't want to miss October vacation time...

If CUBS fans are frustrated by this past year thats nothing. 1989-1990 the CUBS were loaded with better talent that busted their butts to win only to watch their own manager, the pathetic, simple minded moron known as Don Zimmer single handedly destroy their chance to win. Dawson, Sandberg, Grace, Dunston, Maddux, Sutcliff, Sanderson, Bielecki and more, fought and fought to win only to sit and watch the mental midget, ZIMMER, ignore stats and go on a gamblers intuition and put the wrong pitcher in and BAM! But was the ignorant feces ZIMMER at fault, or the higher mgmt? Until all of that eras mgmnt are out of the system the CUBS will always be playing against their opponents and their mgmnt!
