Which team has been the most successful over the last ten years?

Name your top 5 teams of this decade.

And, for fun, name a surprise or two that could happen this year that might affect your selection of the decade's top team?

Just do me the favor of supporting your claim with something that resembles clear evidence.

Notre Dame! Oh wait, you said this decade. Nevermind.

Not to be too picky, but there are still two seasons left in this decade.

Are you saying Notre Dame still has a chance?

1-2-3 in no particular order: Texas, Florida, USC. 4th place: Oklahoma. Tied for 5th place: LSU and tOSU.

Based on a combination of
-national championships,
-BCS bowl record,
-overall record,
-final rankings.

Thought about factoring in strength of schedule, but that probably gets too subjective, and I doubt it would change my picks. IMO those 6 stand out above the rest.

LSU, UF, and USC were the teams of the decade. USC has gotten hosed in getting to the title game more than once but the PAC-10 is not as deep as the SEC so the tiebrakers don't go the Trojans way more often then not, also USC was no great shakes at the start of the decade. LSU and UF both have 2 BCS titles but have also had years where they lost 4-5 games and lost bowl games they should have won. If LSU, USC, or UF win big the next two years then that team will have earned the team of the decade lable. If Texas, OU, or tOSU win big over the next two years they can join the top three (and overcome the reps they have for losing big games in the case of tOSU and OU).

For Ms. Trixi, how on earth can the "team of the decade" have a 5 game bowl losing streak?

Not having one dominant team isn't unusual. The 90's had FSU, Miami, and Nebraska. The 80's had Miami, OU, and PSU. You have to go back to the 50's to find one dominant team of the decade and even then OU did lose a few games and other teams did win the AP poll a few times.

Okay. I compiled my list based on winning records, conference strength and the last time the team had a losing record, as well as some interesting little facts and what not.

Very well done. <PSUinSTL tips cap>

"A combination of ..." Can you provide some detail about HOW you combined those elements? Did each of them receive equal weight in the combination?

No order:

Oklahoma
USC
Texas
tOSU
VT (Beemer Ball is also fun to watch sometimes, because there's nothing like guys who are proud to be on special teams trying to kill punt/kick returners)

It's just a list, but if anything, national championships being the ultimate success are probably a little overweighted, otherwise Florida would not be as high as Texas and USC. Sorry, I didn't realize I would be tested on this stuff or I might have tried a more precise quantitative analysis. :)

Wow. That probably took a while. Very nicely done. I'm too lazy to look up all of those statistics i'm sad to say. I would say that in my opinion the SEC is a tougher conference, but i'm probably somewhat biased I won't deny it. Once agin though, very nice list.
