So I was thinking about it today, and I've come to realize that it wouldn't exactly be hard for me to say that Chad Jones is the best athlete to ever walk LSU's campus
Now...before i get chastised for saying this let me explain
I know there have been many...and I mean MANY...great athletes that have played for the good ol' bayou bengals in countless sports. Sooo, the question is...why Chad Jones? I understand that he had an off year on the football field last year as a backup nickel and he could barely sneak his way onto the diamond until this year. However, this kid is a freak of nature. He came out of highschool with a lot of hype as the top rated safety in the country. Let's be honest, though. That is a hard position to compete for if you wear purple and gold. It seems, though, that this will be his year as a starter and one of the leaders on defense. I myself have heard recently that he is lighter than laron landry by about 20 pounds but plays bigger. That is quite a compliment. As far as baseball is concerned...the guy was a pitcher in highschool. What took us so long to realize his potential there is beyond me. I remember hearing a postgame show during baseball season where the the pitching coach spoke highly on Jones saying that he was possibly the most athletic guy he (the pitching coach) had ever coached.
I want to hear some other opinions
And if not Chad Jones, then who?
But no matter what you think, there is no denying the fact that the guy can play either sport beyond college. He's a big, fast, hard hitting safety so the NFL is a definate for him. But if he wanted to play baseball, he could do that too. Because, as people witnessed this past baseball season, if he can throw his fastball and changup down and in the zone...his slider is absolutely wicked. He just needs a little more work in that area on the college level.
But anyway i want to hear what you guys think
