NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Changing of the polls

I'm a Bama fan. I've read arguments for Bama being ranked from 1st to 13th.

None of the arguments make sense.

So....here is how I would change the polls:

(1) No polls would be posted until the 2nd week of October. Pre-season hype, projections, etc. would be totally irrelevant.

(2) I would do away with the rankings of 1 thru 25. Instead I would create "Pools". There would be Pool A, B, C, D, and E. Initially each of these pools would contain five teams. As the season progresses, Pool A would shrink to 4, then 3, then 2 teams. The other Pools would contract or expand in proportion to Pool A. The two remaining teams in Pool A would play for the NC. If the conferences ever come to their senses and create at least a plus-one playoff, Pool A would be expanded to four teams.

The advantage of this system is that it relieves voters from trying to put teams in an exact ranking. It is far easier in my mind to list the top five teams, than it is to rank those same teams from 1 thru 5.

(3) The "Pools" would determine the value of a win. Beating a Pool A team might be valued at 20 points, values of the wins against Pools B, C, D, and E could be determined by someone with a better mathematical mind than mine.

(4) Pool F would be created for the end of season/lower tier bowl games
