NFL  > Denver Broncos  > What did we do to deserve this?
August 24, 2009, 12:32 AM
Hands down, coming from a life long devout Bronco fan, Josh McDaniels has made some of the most devasting, logic defying moves I have ever seen in the NFL. I am angered with the Cutler situation and now the Marshall thing getting worse. It is time to do some serious damage control, and pay the guy his money, he's worth it! As if all this wasn't enough, he failed to seriously address team needs in the draft and I'm not sure Denver is ready to take on another NFL team this season. I am trying to remain positive, but I see one of the worse seasons in my 20+ years as a fan, and am dreading having to face my team being the laughing stock of the league. So to wrap it up, what I'm really trying to say is, Pat Bowlen please don't keep this snotty nose punk around if he can't get us to the playoffs, McDaniels has erased an optomistic future for our proud organization. We waited 10 years for a guy like Cutler, he may have been a bit of a cry baby, but his talent is undeniable. The team itself has a lot of positives on offense, with the exception of the QB, and the defense is missing just a couple pieces, but how long do we have to wait for another stud to lead the team back to the promised land? In closing your welcome Chicago, we giftwrapped the next 10-12 years of your franchise, enjoy.

Seems like people have forgotten how pathetic the Broncos have been for the last several years. cutler proved he wasn't a winner. So what if you have a good arm if you can't win important games against mediocre opponents. lets move on - if Marshall doesn't want to play let him sit at home - I'm sure he'll have plenty to do beating up his girl friend.

Let's see, Mike Shanahan will be in very high demand come the end of this season.
Jay Cutler could become an elite player and make the Hall of Fame.

Denver has Kyle and Josh, yeah I would hide the knives and bulletts if I were a Denver fan. I have no idea what you did to deserve this, the situation is really sad, seems more like a "al davis idiotic kind of move" than a Bronco move.

One bright side is you can still win your division if San Deigo falls flat on it's face, but winning a playoff game seems out of reach.

I agree with this comment all the way down to San Diego flopping. The West is San Diego's to lose, isn't it? Good stuff Hammered_every.

We have not even played a game yet and people are freaking out. Why would anyone pay marshall? He has done nothing to deserve a raise. Let me see here, the guy got arrested when he knew he had to stay out of trouble, has run his mouth non stop, refused to learn the playbook, and is a cancer on the sidelines and some people are saying pay him, that would be absolutely insane. What would that say to the rest of the team, whine like a little ****, get arrested, don't learn the plays and the Broncos will throw money at you. That my friend would make us the laughing stock of the league.

August 25, 2009  12:47 AM ET

Nah, y'can all keep Marshall - I like our receivers, running backs, TEs, O-Line, D-line, linebackers, sSecondary and eh .... quarterback (thanks again, seriously, he's working out a treat). Having said that, Kyle Orton - The Zohan - is better than advertised. He's had a rough start. He'll never be king of the hail mary, but you don't always need those. He'll do just fine for the Broncos given time, it's a new system for him. Won't see any of those Cutler laser beams though, y' got spoiled with Cutler ... but we'll look after him real good for y'all, don't worry ;o)

Josh McDaniels is the biggest tool in the NFL and buttf**ked your franchise IMHO. Feel genuinely sorry for Bronco fans, really do.

You just heard about the trade now?

Next you'll be reporting that Favre is coming back.

August 25, 2009  04:24 AM ET

First of all, the fans did nothing wrong. No one made the Broncos perform that trade and his record of 17-20 doesn't mean he's a loser-he had no defense. He was a little immature, but is talented and should've stayed put. Organizations always deal with this stuff and they use different ways to handle it. I thought the Broncos should've given Jay some money because you'll have to pay a qb anyway so why not the one you have. It's going to take a while to find a suitable replacement but with trading your pick away some of the leverage is gone. Pat Bowlen exercised his power as owner when he ordered the trade-the problem is that he has placed himself in a situation whereas he will end up paying alot of qbs at a higher value. He could easily spend 100-150 million just on the position alone. It wasn't worth it.

He is a great QB Coach and a great offensive coordinator. This is, of course, assuming that Josh McDaniels made Tom Brady... and not the other way around.

But there have been made successful coordinators that couldn't handle the head coaching position. And IMO, Josh McDaniels is on a delirious power trip. He thinks that he is better than he actually is.

Lets not forget that Charlie Weis, Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini all looked like promising future head coaches... until they stepped out of New England.

....And....lemme guess....he'd decide he "needs" to pull John-Boy Elway outta-retirement (to Assist); a Denver Marketing-DREAM!!!

In the mean-time, he's travelin'-around, lookin' to get-into a SUCCESSFUL-franchise!!!!

What WR's? You have zero...Hester isn't a WR, his a glorified return man.

I think Jay is a upgrade no doubt but he has zero WR talent compared to what he left in Denver.

August 25, 2009  03:04 PM ET

Mr. Shaman...this is the 2nd thread I've seen you bashing Elway.

Not a big fan I take it?

John did more with less than any QB ever...give him what Ben has and you'd be bowing at his feet, not to mention what Terry had, a team full of HOF talent.

One of the TOP 3 of ALL TIME (1 at the top of my list) and no, I'm not a Bronco's fan.

Oh ya the Broncos dropped to 9-7, 7-9 and 8-8 while rebuilding after a trip to the conference finals where they lost to the SB champs. Truly PATHETIC..lol Its the defense that wasn't a winner, not Jay. Its called taking things for granted. Denver is quickly gonna realize what spoiled brats their fan base and ownership was. Thats what you've done to deserve this Donkeys fans. You failed to realize that since 1995 you've only had 2 loosing seasons under Shanahan tied for least in the NFL with the Packers. You failed to realize that even when you were rebuilding you were respectable. Don't worry you'll soon get a taste of the 4-12, 3-13 records teams usually get while rebuilding since you're starting over after shipping out a Pro Bowl QB, and soon a Pro Bowl wide Receiver. Lets hope McDaniels does a great job with all the top 5 draft choices you earn because you never drafted higher than 10th under Shanahan(even though you were sooo bad), ohhh wait. You arrogant G.M. and coach traded your pick away and kept the Bears pick. You won't be in the top 15 again this year, Seattle will benefit from your follies. Well at least you have a 2011 top 5 pick to look forward to.

August 25, 2009  07:50 PM ET

Orton looked fine last game. He drove the field each time, killed the clock and his only pick was on a desperation left handed throw on 4th down with little time on the clock before half time. This was all without his rookie star RB and his prima dona WR. Cutler will struggle until Lovie can get some WR's like he had in Denver and those aren't just popping out of trees.

Sorry we don't settle for average. Shanny was a good coach and an offensive genius but he proved that without Elway, he couldn't win it all. I'm not saying what McDaniels is doing is right, but at least he is shaking it up a bit. Trying new things.
