.ya know, I haven't watched, nor really given Olympic hockey much thought after the team threw their room wrecking tantrum at Nogano. I know it's a "profit deal" but I hate having the pros play. It never got any better than watchking our amateurs better the USSR in 1980.............but those days are long gone!..................
It should be an interesting tourney to say the least. I say that there are 4 or 5 teams that could win gold. It will come down to some lucky bounces and a couple of fortunate(unfortunate) calls. I just hope Canada doesn't lay an egg and finish 7th again.
I'd like to see them change from an unlimited professional roster, to an under 25 team. Kind of like soccer does for the Olympics, would still be great hockey and that way the NHL doesn't have to shut down.

I agree. I liked the Olympics more before NHL players started participating. Plus, it's all goofy anyways. You got guys on the Italian team that have never even been to Italy but their name happens to be Italian, you got guys like Brett Hull (of course not currently Brett Hull) that are from Canada but play for the U.S. etc. I enjoy the hockey either way but thought it was better without NHLers.
I don't see the Americans as having a chance at Gold...not without another miracle.
Ovie and Geno on the same line would simply be AMAZING!
BTW Adam, did you notice your name says "Amry" and not "Army"?
NHL is one sport that can truly die in the off season. Hell, to get a fix people actually go to hockeybuzz and read Eklunds nonstop charade of "inside information." If we all listened to that guy the Habs would have all these people on thier roster today! Sundin, Lecavalier, Gaborik, Blake, Sharp, Hossa, Pheneuf, Bowermeister, Marleau, and still have room under the cap to make a big trade for someone like Crosby... whom by the way would be willing to waive his NTC according to Ek...
Ah, I love the hockey off season. Le sigh*
Ovie and Malkin will either pull in 5 points a game or bust because of puck possession issues.

...but I do dig "Nogano 98" on my old Nintendo 64!.............

the brett hull thing is because he's a dual-citizen...his mom is from chicago...after two years at UMD he chose to become an American citizen....

Brett Hull chose to be on team Usa because Canada did not want him originally. The Usa team took him so he stayed to keep rubbing it in Canada's faces. That was before he scored 86 goals in a season an everyone thought he was too slow and lazy.
Hard to bet against Canada on home ice. The Russians should be reall tough though. Most don't expect Team USA to medal, but with a group that young anything can happen...
Russinas should get at least a silver. I always think team Canada is a favorite with the star power that makes up the entire team.
