NFL  > Denver Broncos  > Ditching zone blocking for the running game... McD making another mistake?
September 6, 2009, 11:15 PM
Did you notice that the running game is, now, straight blocking and "power" (read stopped at the line) running?!? Shanahan had a decent running game, planned around an inovative blocking scheme... ZONE.. linemen took their assignment to spread the D-line out... leaving holes that a cut-and-sprint runner could find on their own... very effective (if runners stayed healthy!). Now, as I've seen in preseason, the Denver running game is a straight forward up-the-gut....easy-to-stop .. old fashioned "flying wedge"!!!! I didn't even see a trap block/cross block! Come on, McD! Let those linemen STUNT!

ps... LOVE the spread offense... Even with an average, weak armed but consistant QB, it's a beauty passing game to watch!
