In a way similar to this years Australian Open Final against Nadal, Federer breaks down in the 5th set. Poor serving and a ton of backhand errors were partly a result of Del Potro's overpowering game but even still, Fed let this one slip away.

Roger could have had a calendar slam in 2009 if it weren't for a couple of 5th sets. Capturing the French makes it a great year for him no matter what but it was very close to being even better. Who would have thought that Del Potro would beat Murray to a 1st Slam? ATP tennis now has an awesome Top 5!

It was a fun match to watch...I was rooting for Fed, but Del Porto really beared down...pretty amazing....and of course, Fed showed all sorts of class. Gracious in defeat.

Fed's game wasn't the best we have seen today, double faults and unforced errors, am sure he cold play better. Well, imagine if Del Potro were here 4-5 yrs back? I think Men's tennis now has the best line-up after a long gap!! Federer obviously is one of the greatest but the question about GOAT - Would Fed gotten those slams with the line-up that's now? Let's hope to have more competitive tennis like the ones we saw in the just-ended US Open (Del Potro vs. Federer) and the AUS Open 2009 (Nadal vs. Federer)!!

Jimme69: Hopefully, we have seen the last of Federer's baby tears as he now knows that a few other players can beat him, not just Nadal. Tsongas also beat him a few weeks ago. I agree we now have the best top five in the ATP in recent years. Nadal's loss to Del Potro wasnt as strange as some people thought afterall.
