NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Bears vs. Packers Film Session Review: Defense
September 15, 2009, 04:20 AM
To give you a summary of this giant film session review article the Bears tried out a lot of different things when rushing the passer. Marcus Harrison played a lot of three-technique in this game, Tommie Harris was double teamed a lot which led to O-Guns sacks. Mark Anderson played his butt off in this game and was the second best defensive player in this game after O-Gun.

The Packers started to find an offensive rhythm after Urlacher left the game and Hunter Hillenmeyer was in the game. If the Packers had more opportunities on offense in the second half, they only had five real drives that mattered in the entire second half and a penalty really killed the momentum of that drive., they could have put a lot more points on the board. They were really effective at running the ball with Urlacher out, the evidence was clear.

The game-winning touchdown was a one read, play-action pass that even had good pressure in the face of Rodgers when he made the throw. The safety jumped into the box to support the run and was promptly burned along with Vasher. The Packers started to run the ball well once they were certain Urlacher wasn't going to return. That effective rushing attack, led to that play-action pass.

Hillenmeyer looked way out of position a lot of times or was flat out blocked out of the play or put on this back. Same for Nick Roach and with Urlacher out, Briggs became less effective because the Packers were able to attack him more.

I wonder what the result of this game would have been had the Packers had more time on the clock. The defensive play clearly began to suffer in the second half and that was a direct result of Urlacher's loss.

If you want to really get the most complete break down of the Bears on defense that you'll find anywhere on the web click on this article. I promise you will not find a more thorough all around analysis of the Chicago Bears anywhere else.
