NFL  > Oakland Raiders  > Just Bench Jamarcus Russell...
September 22, 2009, 11:53 AM
After 2 weeks we are 1-1... It is very apparent to me that Jamarcus is going to lose more games for us than he will win. I think the Raiders would be better with Gradkowski for the season, and drafting or trading for a new QB. Cut your loses Cable, you arent doing yourself or this team any favors by keeping baby huey back at QB. When rookie receivers are calling your qb out and just begging to have a ball thrown within 5 yards of them (not at their feet mind you) you know you have a real problem. 35 incomplete passes in 2 weeks... big problem. If not for the Chiefs total ineptitude we would be at 0-2. Jamarcus is showing absolutely 0 signs of growth, which is scary because our line is protecting better than at any time in the last 5-6 years. He has all day to throw, and receivers are getting open.

Please Cable, please BENCH JAMARCUS, or sub him in at guard for gallery...

The shame in it all, is you guys let Garcia go. The guy is a winner, why the hell would they drop him like that knowing how sketchy Russell can be? I still think he can make it, he just needs somebody to push him.

September 22, 2009  12:43 PM ET

35m guaranteed $$$$ against the cap! he will start until he gets hurt

September 22, 2009  01:59 PM ET

For starters, I think that JRuss needs to be sat down. On a funnier note: Romo had a worse day than Jamarcus.statwise and he lost the game. This not the first time Romo has had this type of game. It is the fifth one where he was worse than the horrible outing by JRuss....and Cowboy fans wonder why they have not won a playoff game in 12 years.

Russell will be the starter as long as Davis is the manager..

He's both. And I hope you're wrong (comment #4) because if the goal is to win and Russell doesn't get better quickly, it will be another long year.

September 22, 2009  09:30 PM ET

Trade JRuss to the steelers, we can use another guard or tackle

That is a great comparison, pretty funny too.

...lose more games for "us"?

What kind of delusional lunatic are you? You actually think that you are part of the team?

I hear that Cleveland fans love to blow bubbles.

JaMarcus couldn't complete a pass to plastic man. But he rarely has turnovers and with
him the Raiders will win more than they did before.

JaMarcus Russell will become a journey QB in the Rodney Peete sense, he is not a
franchise QB and the sooner the Raiders move on the better.

Getting rid of Jeff Garcia was a huge mistake and the Raiders will struggle to win
6 games, with one of the poorest offenses in the league.

Its not Tom Cable's fault, but he's gone around the 10 loss mark

Damn. That cracked me up.

What's up with this immediate gratification b.s.?

Russell's only really got 1 season under his belt. Give him a few years.

I would agree about giving him time if he showed ANY progress at all. Maybe even a little emotion.... He goes out there, throws balls all over the field (except where receivers may be) and goes and sits on the sideline smiling like an idiot with his stupid winter hat on in 80 degree weather. He simply does not make plays. He is not smart enough to run a professional offense.

And to the loser that asked what kind of delusional lunatic I am because I refer to the Raiders as "us" or "we"... I AM part of the team. I am a die hard fan who bleeds with that team year in and year out. Without fans the team is nothing... they dont exist. So yes the team IS we or us to me!

That's a good question. Garcia can play, but he's getting older and no team seems to view him as a long-term solution. The Raiders might have figured it was about time to get Russell in the mindset that this is his job to hang onto (as opposed to his job to lose) and try to get as much of a return on their investment in him as they can. He still has three years on his contract after this season.

First off, nearly 40 years as a Raidah fan. Second, benching won't happen because:

- This is another Al Davis scholarship (and I mean a 1000 Harvard tuitions a year) player. Untouchable.

- Well known coming out of college that he did not work hard and had a "laid back" (being kind) attitude that is on display now. Davis won't let his coaches push the players nor practice hard so a match made in heaven for Russell (ever wonder why for so many years the team would fade in the clutch? Now you know.).

- Fans will say that he's young BUT, young or old, your fundamentals and game prep speak highly about where you've been and are going (btw, I neva buy the "he's young" party line for it's only hopeless and delusional thinking. See Sanchez, Mark, Flacco, Joe, and Ryan, Matt).

- Garcia would have been the one to challenge him so he was cut (can't have your gazillion-dollar baby worried about actually being competent and professional now can you?). Now there is no one at back-up QB that you'd actually want in there.

- And I quote from the best Raidah beat writer, Jerry McDonald, on his "Inside the Raiders" blog today, "During the mandatory minicamp and OTA sessions open to the media, I wrote daily of Russell???s struggles with even the most basic pass plays, often against no defense."

Sorry, RochesterRaidersFan, from here in the Bay Area I can tell you that the mistake was in the drafting of "Peanut". We will live with it and lose ( a lot) because of it.

September 23, 2009  12:25 PM ET

Mongo know Al Davis complete jerk he hate fans he takes fans money and give to Russell

September 23, 2009  12:59 PM ET

OK...first of all let this JRuss situation simmer down.
May I remind u all:
-he played really strong at the end of last season
-these past 2 games he has been really good when he needs to be
-terrible front office move by Al to let Garcia go ( to a team that will release him anyway )
-its only two games and the defense has been holding their own.
So take it easy this team is taking a good step foward this season to have a winning season at least 8-8.Next season this team should be taking the AFC west or taking up a wild card spot. Hopefully Al resigns to main components to this team who are on a contract year (Kirk Morrison and Zach Miller).

Gradkowski? C'mon man.. "Fire the Coach, Cut the whole team, Fire the trainer, Fire Al Davis, blow up the Oakland bridge..! Boring man, boring.

Yes, he played bad, but this is as stable that the Raiders have looked in a long time. They look like an NFL team again. I think the Raiders are on the right track. Finally.
