Browns franchise deactivated, to resume in '99

Eventually the NFL and the parties worked out a deal. The Browns' franchise would be deactivated for three years. Modell had to leave behind the Browns' name, colors and heritage (including team records) for a replacement franchise, in the form of either a new team or a relocated franchise. This is in direct contradiction of statements made by Modell since the move to Baltimore that implied he gave up the name, colors and history of the Browns as a sign of goodwill towards the fans of Cleveland. In return, Modell was allowed to take his franchise, (ie his right to own a team in the NFL), his players and organization to Baltimore as the new expansion Ravens. Cleveland received a loan from the NFL to help with the cost of a new stadium. The Browns returned to the NFL in 1999 with Lerner, a friend of Modell as well as a minority owner of Modell's original franchise and MBNA CEO and owner, assuming ownership, after Lerner outbid other interested parties for the right to buy the reactivated Browns' franchise.

This guy posts a video on You Tube and he is TOTALLY misinformed. Art Modell left the colors and the name in Cleveland and did not attempt to take them as Irsay did witht the Colts. The real Browns are in Baltimore. Why the NFL ever gave Leaveland another team is beyond me when you could have instead put on in L.A., Vegas, Toronto or hell ANYWHERE but Leaveland AKA "City of Losers" AKA "Armpit of America".

HAHA.... This guy is pretty pissed off at Cleveland. Is it because the Knicks are terrible and will conitnue to be terrible for the next 10 years at least? Or is it because the only way New York can win a title is to buy it (sometimes that doesnt even work: Yankees).

You offer nothing to this site. Read your comments that you have posted (which I'm sure you probably do on a regular basis). What does the garbage that you keep repeating over and over do for anyone? Other than wasting space for intelligent comments it just makes you look like an arrogant idiot.

Hey buddy, I just call em how I see em. Plus, in life few things are better than kicking the enemy when they are down and rubbing it in when you get to check them into line. Few fans are as ignorant and arrogant as Cleveland/tSlowsu fans. Why do you think nearly as many people mock you and rejoice in your pain as do the Yankee and Boston haters?

Because you suck and you run your traps yet NEVER win NEVER!!!

Also, think about this.... Dozens of players and coaches have won and won big as soon as they escaped Cleveland. Why is that? Hmmmmmmm.....
