The University of Iowa's head football coach from 1979-1988 is well known for his coaching tree. Here are some coaches that have coached under the Hall of Fame coach

Some to coach under Hayden Fry.

BARRY ALVAREZ - 1979-1986 (118-73-4 as Wisconsin Head Coach)

BOB STOOPS - 1983 (111-26 as Oklahoma Head Coach)

BILL SNYDER - 1979-1988 (139-70-1 as Kansas State Head Coach)

BRETT BIELEMA - 1996-2001 (33-11 as Wisconsin Head Coach)

KIRK FERENTZ - 1981-1989 (87-74 overall, 75-53 as Iowa Head Coach)

JIM LEAVITT - 1989 (88-52 as South Florida Head Coach)

MIKE STOOPS - 1986-1991 (28-33 as Arizona's Head Coach, took 5 years to get a winning season.)

BO PELINI - 1991-1992 (14-5 as Nebraska Head Coach)

DAN MCCARNEY - 1977-1989 (56-85 as Iowa State's Head Coach, current Florida's Defensive Line coach)

This is probably the best coaching tree that NCAA football has ever had.
