NFL  > New York Jets  > Guru?
October 12, 2009, 11:56 PM
Will you now concede to the fact that it was too soon to call your boy a "guru". How predictable was that offense the Dolpphins ran tonight? A "guru" would have had some defensive scemes to stop such predictable play calling, guru?

Way to go Dolphins...you beat the Jets and all the really bad calls from the officials...and for sure they seemed to do all possible to give the Jets a win!

Huh? I'm not sure whay side you are taking.

On a side note, give the "guru" credit for acknowledging the fact that it was his fault for the defensive play calling losing the game. At least he doesn't make excuses, that says a lot about a coach. And there is no sarcasm involved in that statement.

I know you cowards have read this. You took a subject out of context now you won't defend your statements on your comments that you made on that thread I'm waiting for the reason to call your boy a "guru" even he downplays his coaching abilities. You are a bunch of cowards. I'm not talking to all Jets fans, just the ignorant ones who wouldn't stay on topic.

October 13, 2009  08:58 AM ET

WOW!!! one bad defensive game after years of dominating defenses, your right, rex knows nothing!!!! your a SF fan, you got TORCHED. let me repeat that TORCHED. The jets will be fine, it's hard to judge a defense against that kind of offense, and if you can your a moron because the saints clearly have a better offense than miami, and the jets played great def. against NO. LETSGODUKE, stop drinking your haterade on the jets, and worry abuot SF.

LetsGoDuke...."On a side note, give the "guru" credit for acknowledging the fact that it was his fault for the defensive play calling losing the game." In another thread I did give Ryan his due and mentioned he had the class to man up and take all responsibilty for the loss due to his game plan. Not a fan of either club ....I just love to see the Jets get their due and they got it last night.

I don't hate the jets, I am simply talking chit to the A'Holes who got their panties in a wad over rex ryan being an idiot. They wanted to change the subject to call him a guru and then tried to call me an idiot for saying give him time before you call him a guru. Now will you concede to the fact that it is too early to call him a guru, or do you think it wasn't the defensive play callinng that was the reason the jets lost?

Also, you will not find anywhere where I have said Ryan doesn't know anything. I think he has done well his first year and there is no reason to think he won't be a good coach. He was just an idiot with the way he handled the tampering accusation, that's all.

The Niners did get their A. S. S. Handed to them, it was sad and really disapointing.

I disagree. I think its quite fair to call him a defensive guru right now. Right now, its to early to call him a great head coach. Thats the difference. The guy know's defense and you cant discredit that. Last night was awful, but its hard to judge a defense against that kind of offense, though Ryan has had success in the past against the wildcat. To call him a defensive guru is fair, noting he built one of the greatest defenses to date.

For the same reason you are calling us out for calling him a guru too soon- are you really going to discredit Rex Ryan and say that he isn't a defensive guru just because the Jets lost one game?

I mean, a reasonable person wouldn't say Adrian Peterson isn't the best running back in the league if he turned in a 40 yard rushing day.

Things haven't changed from before. REX RYAN IS A DEFENSIVE GURU. You would be hard pressed to name any other coach that is significantly better than him. It's not too early to declare that WHEN HE HAS SHOWN HIS EFFECTIVENESS AS A DEFENSIVE COACH WITH THE RAVENS AND NYJ. HE HAS A PROVEN TRACK RECORD WITH THE RAVENS AND THE JETS D IS 10X BETTER THAN LAST YEAR. Any professional sports analyst would tell you the same.

AGREED

As a Dolphins fan...I would not say that our offensive scheme was that predictable last night. They did a decent job at stopping the wild cat, by playing the gaps. However, the majority of our big plays were completed by pocket passing from Henne. I'm sure Rex was more concerned with the wild cat since this was only Henne's second start.

At least we can stop all the crap with Rex Ryan being some kind of defensive genius ... well done Dolphins. Nice football.

This was the first game of the season where Miami threw passes out of the WildCat formation. What the Jets saw on film and what the Jets saw on the field are two completely different things.

We should give the Dolphins coaches some more credit.

So far this season, the Jets defense:
- Allowed only 10 points from the Saints offense.
- Allowed NO points from the Texans offense.
- Held the Tom Brady-led Patriot offense to NO touchdowns.

That's pretty damn good considering:
- Last year the Jets defense ranked #16 overall
- The Jets drafted NO defensive players this off-season
- Rex Ryan has only been with the team for a few months

Ryan is far from done building that defense. But he has done a lot more, a lot faster than anyone had expected. What we are seeing right now is potential.

Thank you. Somebody else understands football. You cant judge a defense against a wildcat offense, its not conventional. Look what he's done against your typical NFL offense....shut them down. Again, i think its more than fair to call him a defensive guru, not a great head coach yet...but it will come.

October 14, 2009  01:07 PM ET

this is true...all the wildcat offense did was wear out the defensive players because they were chasing the running backs all over the field....this leading to the Dolphins having receivers that were able to get so wide open when they ran regular passing formations, due to the fatigue of the Jets defenders

Mike Nolan is a Defensive Guru, weak as a head coach, my feeling is offensive coordinators make better head coaches than defensive. Will Ryan be like Nolan?

You realize that Nolan basically used Ryan's Scheme in baltimore.

I disagree.

The last six Super Bowls were won by former Defensive Coordinators.

How about now? No defensive "GURU" loses back to back games to the Dolphins and Bills. The Niners would tear you guys apart right now!!!
