NFL  > New York Giants  > Giants - Saints Matchup
October 13, 2009, 02:26 PM
Well, other than the cowboys in week 1, the Giants really haven't been tested. The Giants defense has played well despite losing Phillips in the secondary, but it will be interesting to see how they fare against Brees & Co. I think this is going to be a lower scoring game than people think. If the Giants are smart, they will run the ball, slow the game down and keep the Saints Offense off the field. It could very well come down to a field goal on the final drive.

This is going to be the game of the week.....I wish they could somehow bump this up to primetime, 1:00 just isn't cutting it!

GO GIANTS!!

i think that Drew Brees is going to have a big day against the beat up secondary of the giants. a lot of emotion is going to be in this game with shockey in the home locker room. i think that the giants running game should be able to do well against that defense but hey you never know that defense did better against the jets than i thought they were going to do. i believe that the giants are going to win this game. giants 24 saints 21. im prolly going to be wrong with the score but the saints are way to dimensional. reggie bush hasnt done what i thought he would do when he came outta college. Drew Brees is way to much of a passer to give the ball to his running backs for a significant amount of touches. If Brandon Jacobs can actually play like he did last yr than the saints defense is going to be in for a lot of pounding

The Saints are like 4th against the run and have a top offense/defense. The Giants have played some of the worst teams in the NFL at this point and don't appear to be able to stop the run or execute in the red zone. Saints win.

October 14, 2009  01:22 PM ET

Uhhhh.... last time I checked, the Saints have played Buffalo & Detroit, Philly with Kevin Kolb in his first game (when he threw a million INT's), and oh yeah, the Jets, which have come back down to earth, and coincidentally had not played any real competition, either. Before you go off and say they beat the pats, the pats are not the same, nor are the titans, so chill.

The Giants have not played anyone either, as I have said before, and this Phillips thing has been something I have harped on sinc the draft. Anyway, the last time they played was in 2006, and the Giants got crushed by 3 TD's if I remember correctly.

The Saints are overrated. Here is why - the only team that has posted over 100 yards rushing against the are the Jets, and all of the other teams were passing on close to 80% of the plays called, and we are talking about not-so great passing attacks (Kolb was in his FIRST game, though I admit he had some good games after). So the Saints have not really faced a complete team - i.e. one that has an offense AND a defense all year.

Then again, neither have the Giants - but the Giants have, just like the Saints have, executed and won their games outright against weaker opponents, and won two division games in that stretch which is always harder.

So as they say, Defense wins football games, and I think the Giants D is better than the Saints D, period. In addition to this, the Giants running game is better than the Saints running game, and for those of you that say the aints D is tough - the Ravens allowed 206 RUSHING yards last year to the G-men, and over 100 this last week to.... the Bengals!?!?!?!? Yep the friggin Bengals.

Giants 30, Saints 20.

Agreed Mason...

I think the Saints are a great team this year and homefield is in their favor, but who have they really played this season. you could say the Eagles were their toughest game to date, but not the same team with Kolb.

I think the Saints have yet to see a pass rush anything like the Giants. I think it's been kind of quiet this season, but i say Sheridan dials it up this Sunday and blitzes Brees all day.

Our secondary will be tested, and i think willl step up more than they get credit for.

Defense will win this game and i have to give a significant advantage to the G-Men here. Giants 27-24.

what matchups ? the only clear cut advantage the Saints have is Jeremy Shockey against CC Brown or Chase Blackburn ... and it wouldn't even be a mismatch if Michael Boley were healthy. Marques Colston is the best WR on that team and thats cooool but Corey Webster is the best corner in the NFC ... BAR NONE. He'll go mostly unnoticed this sunday ... and Terrell Thomas is a player ... not to mention the G-Men might get Ross back this week.

Go Saints!

October 14, 2009  08:04 PM ET

Kolb may have played for the Eagles but the Saints still put up 48 on that Eagles D, in Philly. That's the real deal. They also beat the Jets when they were 3-0, allowing only 10 pts.

The Giants will be a helluva test...but the Saints prevail in the Dome.

October 14, 2009  08:50 PM ET

The Saints are only one dimensional, all they do is pass the ball, that's why Brees is the best passer in the game so far. I think the Giants win this one 35-23.

October 14, 2009  08:54 PM ET

Cowboys game was Week 2. Minor detail.

October 14, 2009  09:09 PM ET

This would be a good weak for Brandon Jacobs to show up. I'm starting to wonder if he's hiding an injury... he's been that bad... and against really weak run defenses.

I believe that the Drew Brees / Saints passing game is overrated. The guy threw 6 touchdowns in Week 1 against Detroit. But not much since.

October 14, 2009  09:31 PM ET

I think the GIants will prevail, Coughlin will have them ready

No they're not, they have the #2 rush offense in the NFL.

October 14, 2009  10:35 PM ET

Brees and passing game has sputtered the past 2 games.

And Saints fans know what happens after bye weeks.

A lot of Story lines surround this game...

Battle of the Undefeated

Mannings Home Coming

Shockey looking for sweet revenge

Possible #1 Seed game

I have been looking forward to this game the moment the schedule came out.

I was/am a Shockey fan, Still wear my #80 Shockey NYG jersey with pride. Although I didn't agree with how he left new york, He's a tough personality and a "me" player and not the best "team" player. I'm sure he will want to put some numbers on us on sunday, Sure AP will keep an eye on that.

Eli vs Sharper... Sharper has had Eli's number everytime they face each other. Eli has been amazing this season and I'm sure he and the WR's are watching tape to find ways to get some seperation on Sharper. I would use Manningham & Smith as a decoy #1's and open the field for Nicks and Moss... I expect this game to be Nicks coming out party.

Not sure what's going on with Jacobs, It's not good when he can't pound the rock in against the raiders on the goaline. We are using Bradshaw more than I would like this early in the season... I hope we can get back our "Thunder n Lighting ver.2.0" running game with more consistancy.

Should be a fun game, Time of possession will be key, Giants are great at controling the clock against strong offensive teams... Remember the opening drive in the superbowl.. 12 some minutes. They have to have a similar game to that game to win here.

Overall, Just nice as a fan to really be excited for a game between two solid teams because the past 3 weeks have been a bore!!!

They should. But there are three factors that keep making me think Saints:
1. Sean Payton has two weeks to prepare (Bye week last week) for NYG
2. Eli Manning is injured and has not played a full 60-minute game on that foot.
3. Jeremy Shockey wants revenge

The Giants played Washington in week 1, the Cowboys in week 2, then Bucs, Chiefs, Raiders.....

The Giants Seconday is good to go, and have held thier opponents to just over 100 yard passing average, and they have also stopped the run. so the teams they played havent faired well against anyone else, but the Giants have dominated those games. Even taking Eli out for over a half a game and still scoring 16 more points with Carr in.

My pic is easy, The Giants.

Go GEEE-MEN!!!
