NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > They are what they are....

Frankly, I am sick of the Romo/Williams and Wade haters...it is getting old.

Dallas is ranked #1...get that, #1 in the NFL in total offense after 5 games.

Their D is mediocre at best right now but seems to have improved in the last few games...

3-2 is not horrible...not great but not horrible considering their 2 losses came to the 5-0 Broncos and 5-0 Giants.

Literally, this team is 2 plays from 5-0 themselves.

Let alone we are without our starting Strong Saftey, #1 RB, #1 WR and our #2 RB.

Give me a healthy team after the bye week and lets see where things lie after the Falcons, Seahawks and Eagles games are through.

If we can be at 5-3 after that stretch, I think they have a legit shot at 10-6 which should get in as a wildcard.

After the playoffs start, anything is possible.

Doubt me....ask the Cardinals last year...or how about the Steelers a few seasons ago when they got in as the #6 seed and won it all!

Jeff,
fair post. It will bring more haters but....Along with rested and healed players they MUST eliminate the penalties, spent a few minutes trying to find where they rank in number/yards of penalties in the league. Bet it is top 3.... anyone have the answer?

The above lines seem like a contradiction to the title of the thread. Seeing both sides of the coin means admitting that the Cowboys are also a couple of plays away from possibly being 1 - 4. Steve Smith running the right route and keeping Terrance Newman from producing the "pick six" against the Panthers and a long kick going through the uprights rather than being blocked against the Chiefs.

October 15, 2009  05:36 PM ET

all fair observations.... dallas should be more healthy after the bye. hopefully, felix will be back and roy too (although many will wonder if miles should be the #1 WR.) i think dallas will respond well in the few games after the bye - they should. after that the games get tougher and 10-6 seems like a possibility. penalties are a real problem. history says dec/jan games can be a challenge for this team, but i'm hoping wade will get them fired up or he will be fired!

October 15, 2009  06:57 PM ET

I am happy for Miles' performance last week but one game is not enough, I would love to see him replace Crayton and then go on to produce a 1200 yard season over the next 11 games. That is what the team needs is a dual receiver threat to go along with the running game.

"They are what they are...."..............Truer words were never spoken.

I know I've said things about Jerry Jones, Wade, Garrett and more, but that don't mean I hate the Cowboys. It may sometime sound like I do, but since Parcells started up til now, we've been teased about having a quality team, and while they seem to deliver through the regular season, they lose all composure in and around December and get reamed.

We as fans have more right to **** and complain about the Cowboys than any one else. After watching them for over 40 years, I think I have that right. Sometimes, we as Cowboys fans will disagree about something and that's cool. We agree to disagree, for the most part. Opinions do matter. Some of you may absolutely adore Jerry Jones. However, I am not one of his fans, and I disagree with a lot of things he does as a GM. Does that mean I disrespect your right to adore him? No, and most of you know me well enough to know that I respect your opinions.

I've been very patient with Wade, but I have come to the conclusion that he is not going to change. You can tell by the way the team plays. By the way he reacts after a loss....looks like he's pouting. I still support Romo, knowing what we had before him. I think we need better coaches, all in all.

That's where I stand, fellows. Agree or disagree, matters not. We're still fans of the Cowboys.

October 15, 2009  08:22 PM ET

all true..... and this sunday won't be nearly as fun since it's their bye week. but, it is tx/ou wknd. GO HORNS!!

October 16, 2009  11:44 AM ET

Right shirt....

The expectations of Romo are quite silly to me considering what we had before he became the starter.

I have supported Wade all offseason and unless they make a serious run he will be gone and probably for the best...along with Garrett too.

Austin starting SHOULD happen. You do not explode for 250yds and 2 scores by accident.

Putting Austin in as the #2wr with Roy as the #1 will stretch the field and force defenses to roll coverage to his side or risk being burned deep. Doing that will create more 1-1 situations for Witten and Roy or even open up the run even more.

I am looking forward to seeing what this team can do with all of our backs healthy again and Austin on the field as well.

October 16, 2009  11:58 AM ET

The expectations of Romo only came after 90% of Dallas fans put this kid in another galaxy of QB's.

It's funny now to see the Romo fans rebuke the praise and now complain about how his expectations are enormous. And that he is only a 3rd year QB.

This isn;t to EVERY Cowboys fan, or Romo fan, but the majority of them. There are the non biased fans out there, like Bull. It;s just funny to see the die hards whine now that Romo has hit a rough spot in his 16 game season.

G/L Dallas

People keep arguing about Romo as if he was like a shooting star.....he shot his in 07 and now he's been burned out ever since, which is hogwash. Wade is a hometown boy....he and his dad used to coach at some of the high schools around here, but I do think he's over his head with this job.

The coaching leaves a lot to be desired. They've had Austin for over 4 years and just now discovering him? Granted, he had an excellent game, other than 2 drops, but he's been here long before Williams. I wonder what would have happened had Williams played and not Austin?

In the OT period, the first possession we had, was a 3 and out. Barber was in. WHY??????
Choice had been running roughshod every time he was in, and yet, they had a limping Barber in. Good play calling Garrett. If KC hadn't of been so inept, and our defense didn't step up, they sure could have waylaid us big time.

Lawdy.

Hopefully, this bye week will do some good. But, we're fixing to be playing some "less inept" teams.

to be totally honest... i never was that "high" on romo. i always thought he lacked mental toughness and sound judgement. i have not changed so much on romo, but realize he has talent and with the right coaching, could improve. the whole team is like a boat sailing where the wind blows... no real direction, no real leadeship and that's a big problem for any team. i'm not bashing romo... he's not the only problem by a long shot. i just feel that the QB position needs a "leader" type person and maybe romo lacks there. but he's certainly better than anyone we've had since aikman.

*Waves at Steveo*

Yeah, they think he's the 2nd coming of Staubach, and although he's not Staubach, (yet) he damn sure aint Chad Hutchinson. That's one of the "downsides" of this team......expectations from a lot of the fans. They expect SB's every year and nothing less will do. Fans from other teams also expect him to do more than he's been able to since 07 as well. When he don't, then he becomes "RomoHomo", or "Rhomo"....anything derogatory.

Can't win for losing. But, he'll put it together eventually. I wish Chris Palmer was his QB coach again, but he's coaching Eli now, and Eli's looking good. Wonder why?

with the right coaching this team could be so much better. why JJ stick w/ wade and even comes out saying if we'd lost to KC he's still be his man. JJ is a football guy - decades ago - so why can't he see how we are lacking so badly in this dept. is it possible JJ would keep wade even if dallas misses playoffs again? i'm really starting to wonder about his judgement. how old is he???

Just hit a rough spot? Did you just start watching the Cowboys or do you just talk outta your arse?

Hes HAD a rough spot...nothing new, if you are just figuring out Romo is having problems youre an idiot.

No one said you could get out of your corner. Now, go back and stay there while the adults talk football. Here's a pencil and paper..........see if you can think of some new names for yourself.

Something interesting here:

He has the distinction of having been replaced by a father and a son from two head coaching positions ??? by Jim Mora at the New Orleans Saints and by Jim Mora Jr. at the Atlanta Falcons. He also has twice replaced Dan Reeves as a head coach.

Hey Bull!

I agree, Romo is something special to pop up and perform thus far, the way he has. Going from some middle of town school in Illinois to the Cowboys starting QB, Id say he has put himself on a nice looking pedastool. Problem is, the quick and efficient work of his rising made Boys fans, or most of them, goo gaga for him. Sure, give him a QB coach and I believe the Boys are set for at least another 10 years at the QB department.

Hopefully, fans, and media, will come down and realize that this is a 9-7 to 11-5 team based on injuries. NOt the 13-3 or 14-2 team they are expecting year in and out!
