I agree with Wainwright for the Cy. He'd get my vote.
I also don't like that we have signed Franklin for the next couple years. He was good this year but kind of faded down the stretch. He's not th elights out closer we need.
The year went from a pleasant surprise to a surprise disappointment. The team peaked way too early this year.
We gambled alot for a first round sweep in the playoffs.
The winter meetings may be interesting. I think Holliday is gone. I'm honestly beginning to think Albert has begun a campaign to make it the Cardinals fault when he goes to the highest bidder in 2012. We'll see. I'm seeing a change in Albert I don't like. I don't believe he'll be giving a hometown discount for any reason. It's going to be an 8 year 240 million dollar contract to sign Albert.
I wouldn't be completely adverse to trading all the valuable veterans to restock with a haul proven young talent. We're not signing Holliday or Bay this year unless we really overpay. I'm not sure I want them to do it. We may need to start following the Twins model for success. Player development then leverage those palyers just before free agency to restock team. The Pirates do stupidly. The Twins do very successfully.
I agree with the comment about Adam for the Cy. He would have gotten my vote, even over Carpenter.
CF2- I agreed with you about Albert's change in attitude, but I think he's come back to normal since the playoffs. I think he wants to stay in STL and I think they'll get it done to keep him there.
I don't think we need to overhaul. I don't know that we can sign Holliday, but if we don't there should be money to spend to bolster the team. We paid about $42M last year to Pineiro, Wellemeyer, Glaus, Greene, Ankiel, Kennedy, Holliday and DeRosa. I don't think any of those first 6 will be back and if we don't sign Holliday or DeRo, there should be cash to spend
There are about $5M to be paid in raises on existing contracts, and the only significant arbitration eligible guys are Ludwick and Schumaker, so there shouldn't be dramatic increases there. That should leave maybe $30M to add an OF bat, a third baseman and/or a starting pitcher. At least 2 of those 3.
