So you guys stomp on a Terrible Towell and you haven't won a game since. I think there is a connection. - Pittsburgh's Native???
At least the Titans have become immortalized, in song!!!!
Before the Titans, I used to chalk it up mostly to coincidence. I mean, the Bengals won the game where TJ cleaned his cleats, it was the playoff game later in the year that they lost. And, really, the Bungles didn't earn their nickname in one year. Same thing with the Browns... they've never been the team they were before they moved.
As for the Cardinals and the nose-blowing team... We had that Super Bowl won before the playoffs even started. Yes, Arizona managed to do some things in the playoffs after winning arguably the weakest division in football, but a 9-5 team with a sieve-like defense, even if they were ok on offense, up against the Steelers was like throwing a grindstone against an egg.
Even the thing with the Lions mascot this year, it's still the Lions were talking about. Although maybe the Curse of Cope replaced that 50 year hex thing.
But the Titans... that's just inexplicable. Odd even. Their very next game was a shutout, they went 1 and done in the playoffs, and until they mailed a signed towel to the school that gets the proceeds, they hadn't won at all this season and some of their losses were to obviously inferior teams. They didn't lose many people in the offseason, teams around them didn't improve significantly, there's just no reason they should have started the season like that.
I've heard about the occasions in which someone either representing a team or the players themselves have done something 'disrespectful' to the towel and supposedly suffered consequences.
What I'm interested to hear about are incidents in which a player, team official, or pep rally leader has "messed with" Pittsburgh's towel and NOT suffered. Until we have a larger data set, I think the final verdict must remain under consideration.
It's been called the flag of Steelers Nation, but there are still lots of ways fans can use it that would be considered desecration if it were actually on the same level as a flag. Myron Cope himself suggested that it could be used to clean your seat, protect your head from rain or cold, ect... I mean it's still a towel.
weren't the patriots waving them to your fans, on your home-field [on a few occasions] !??
