NFL  > Pittsburgh Steelers  > Week 7 STEELERS VS VIKINGS PREDICTIONS
October 23, 2009, 12:06 PM
I want to hear what everybody thinks about this game? Who will win ? you know the usual grind. Honesty is welcome. This is an opinion thread .
October 23, 2009  12:11 PM ET

Ill go first , I think if the O line does thier job and keeps Jared Allen off of Ben and give him enough time to throw I think the Steelers can pull this one off. I think the presence of Troy will help on Defense. If they bring their A game and The O plays like they have been I think the Steelers will upset the Vikes. I may be wrong but I still think it will be a ggod one. For the simple fact I think that this will tell all of us Steeler fans where the team is headed . First real challenge , they have struggled with teams that they shouldnt have struggled with. Defense will be the key in this on. Which one has a better day.

i got minn. [ +4.5],.........but pitt. will ''sqeek'' out the win !

I keep flip floping..not to sure which way to go. I'm not sure how the steelers o line can contain Allen. Even if you double him that opens "the Williams". I think Jared Allen is the only guy Strong enough in the league that can bring down Big Ben himself... This D Line is 10x better than any line the Steelers have faced so far this season. They can go with what the Saints did and just stack the line with double TE and go 5 vs 4? Just kill the vikes on the passing game... But then in return the Vikes can do the same thing.

This will be a shoot out and it will come down to who has the strongest arm... You just can't go against Farve in those types of games.

I'm most likely to change my mind tomorrow or in 3 hours...I'll finalize a pick by sunday..lol

October 23, 2009  01:32 PM ET

I like the Steelers in this one...strange to say it, but the Steelers have become a pass first team. I heard a stat on ESPN that Big Ben has a 108 passer rating when blitzed...and behind Brady, he's the most blitzed QB in the NFL. I see Minn making the mistake to blitz Ben a lot and therefor Ben takes advantage.
On the other side of the Ball, I see Troy causing some chaos for Favre.

I like Pitt a lot in this one...but watch me be totally wrong, wouldn't be the first time...

October 23, 2009  02:12 PM ET

Ill be waiting Sam LOL You know what you said about Allen I seen that on a show the other night, Rof Woodson was talking about that he was probably the only one strong enough to bring Ben down. I know the O is going to have their hands full for sure but like I said earlier, this will be a real test to see if they can get it done and protect Ben . i know they have a bye week after this one, but then we have the Bronco's still another tough one.

"....Roethlisberger's on pace to smash his single-season pass-yardage mark by 1,500 yards this year. He leads the NFL with 1,887 passing yards. His top three wideouts -- Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and surprising rookie Mike Wallace -- are averaging between 14 and 17 yards per catch."

Everyone knows Pitt plays a defensive game in the past, but Ben has been pretty good in recent weeks with running the offense and keeping them the reason for winning games. IF he can do that, than Pitt will win this game, regardless of Troy coming back to play.

October 24, 2009  02:10 PM ET

Sharp money is on Steel Curtain , line went from -4.5 to -6 ... but suckers win too ... I'll be watching that one on the big screen come Suday ...

I say the Miracle keeps going ... Vikings 7-0 , after winning 27-23

October 24, 2009  03:10 PM ET

Vikes coaching figures out how to offset Steeler D with the running game. AP had a bac day last week, and this week will make the difference, because coaches will change their game. Pitt will be flumockest....or however you spell that. <I am an out of work english major...

October 24, 2009  03:43 PM ET

Gonna be a good one for sure. I still think the blitz's will eventually wear on Farve and turn overs will occur. Steelers by 9. going big!

When Matt Shaubby is 60 yards behind you...You're coming off playing the Lions and Browns. Where are their Pass defenses ranked? We are realizing how bad the Chargers Defense is...We all knowhow bad The titans secondary is now.. I personally don't think the Steelers have faced a strong enough Defense, atleast on Pass rush or with desent corners..The Bears and Bengals are pretty good on Defense, who did the steelers lose to this year?

Steelers already had issues with NFC north teams this season, Now you are facing their Best team, You are at home and it's hard to win there but then this is why the vikes wanted Farve as their QB. To go into hostile games and manage the game with a good run game and a great defense. It's hard to go against them...

So that is great for Ben and being on pace for beating his single season yardage mark, best of luck with that. Not sure being on pace for a record really wins you games, Ask Drew Brees that last year.

Good Game... Football gods were watching over the Steelers today, Vikings shot themselves in the foot. They did the right things against Ben and the Offense, 2 turnovers in the red zone for TD's, simple mistakes. Bad tripping call took awaya TD, Tough breaks Vikes!!!

October 25, 2009  06:01 PM ET

Why is it when the Steelers beat a good team that we have ones on here blaming the refs. The defense stepped it up. No Ben didnt have that great of a game but , he had no Ints and that is an improvement. He fumbled once but it went out of bounds ...The fact is the Steelers outplayed the Vikes. Only mistake was the mendy fumble and that was a BS call against Heath that took a TD away from us. All we Steeler fans have heard on here that when we win we have played noone . Well guess what we played a 6-0 team and we came away with the W . The Defense finally showed the look of old and they kept it up thru all 4 quarters. So I think the haters can get over it. The Steelers proves that they can hang with a good team and they won. Ill take Ben having one mediocre game out of 7 any day as long as they win...Yes the D won this one. Congrats to the Steelers keep the momemtum going.

That was a definition cut block.

I wouldn't say "out played" the vikes...They had major mistakes and in result ended with 2 TD returns. Ben and the offense had chances to close the game and the Vikes stopped them. Vikings more likely beat themselves, Concider yourself lucky to get the W

How? Isn't a cut block when a player goes at the knees of an already engaged player? It was one player who fell down and then Harrison ran into his foot. Not really a trip and not a cut block for sure. Still, it was great to see far eat grass..

October 25, 2009  07:38 PM ET

farve*

October 25, 2009  07:45 PM ET

they lost today, but wait till the end of november and see if Favres arm falls of again
then well know how far the vikes will go

October 25, 2009  07:52 PM ET

I realize someone will correct me if I am wrong. A cut block is where the offense cuts the legs out from under the rusher. It is also prefectly legal.

A chop block is where one offense player engages the defender while another attempts to cut the defender. This is illegal. A trip is also illegal, and, as a Steeler fan, I will concede the call on Harrison was marginal. But, given that Harrison is generally held on almost every play, I am willing to view it as a makeup.

Me too PGH me too. Harrison is the most held player in the NFL , i love how it turns into the refs won it for them again...
