NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > Dallas vs Atlanta
October 26, 2009, 10:02 AM
The game between the two teams yesterday surprised me somewhat. I was expecting Atlanta to do as they did their first drive the entire game, and as they've been doing since last year. They're a pretty good team.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by the 'Boys as they finally got off the porch and went hunting. I had earlier this week mentioned to someone that this game would tell if the 'Boys were going to be able to hunt with the big dogs or continue pooping with the puppies, and at least for this game, they decided to go hunting w/ the big dogs.........:-)

Yes, there were too many penalties,but all in all, I was pleased with their play. I even stood up and hollered a couple of times.....Lol......... The offense started clicking in the 2nd quarter, and played as well as I've seen, and the defense is doing what they should have been doing all year. They recorded 4 sacks, 2 INT's, and 2 fumbles. Good day at the office.For all of you Romo haters out there, try this one on for size;

21 of 29 for 311 yards and three touchdowns. Not to mention he eluded 3 would be sackers and tossed a TD to Crayton.

Miles Austin is a 4th year UNDRAFTED player, similar to Romo, and he is coming into his own now. 8 catches for 173 yards for an encore of his 250 yard day against KC. Will Roy Williams be a bust? He may not be the so called #1 receiver, but I believe he can play a big role in this offense, if nothing else but be a decoy. A couple of passes thrown his way was near his feet, so those can't be blamed on him.

Nice punt return Crayton!...

Now, we need to stay consistent with the play on both sides of the ball, because the schedule is not going to be easier, with the exception of the Redskins and Oakland. But, even those two teams shouldn't be overlooked.

i was real excited for dallas yesterday. they played well! the opening drives did concern me, but dallas turned things around and did well. some big hits from secondary too... love that! romo was "on" and had very few bad throws. really, bad throws don't hurt too much when they aren't INTs and when you counter with a lot of good throws - which he did. not so sure about roy. my main thing w/ him is what he's being paid and what we gave up for him. he may turn out to be a decent receiver or decoy, but that's an expensive amount to pay for a player that is not outstanding..... and i don't ever see him as an outstanding WR. yes, the schedule does get tougher, but there are promising things in this team as long as they play to their potential.

Here are some stats for you:

Romo is a 94.7 rating for the season, which is 10th best in the NFL...he is on pace for 24 scores and 10 picks....not a shabby season considering the rushing game is more of a focus now.

Miles Austin has 502yds recieving (9th best) and 5 scores (2nd best NFL)...he is on pace for 1338yds and 13 scores. Can you say TO who?

Barber has 334yds and 3 scores, Jones with 249 and 1 and Choice has 225 and 2...combined for 818yds and 6 scores....on pace for a triple attack of 2181 and 16 scores.

The Offense is ranked 2nd in the NFL only behind New Orleans in total yds and the D is 22nd but improving week to week.

This team is doing EXACTALLY what we all hoped to this point on O...but the guy stepping up is Austin and Roy is getting doubled.

It will be interesting to see if teams keep doubling Witten and Roy and leaving Austin 1 on 1....

My guess is he will see more coverages roll over and guess what? That opens up JWitt and Roy...

Bottom line...you can not guard everyone and this team is much-much more balanced than what we saw a year ago.

And guess what? We saved 9mil a season and another 100 mil in headaches with no TO.

4-2 is solid when judging their schedule not knowing anything other than last season.

I still see this team going 11-5 this year and this offense improving even more now that Austin is in the fold and everyone is almost 100% healthy.

agree w/ most everything here.... only question - we did get rid of T.O. and his huge salary, but bringing in roy cost us more than we were paying T.O. so maybe the money issue is a wash. T.O. was a problem and roy is "romo friendly" and miles is stepping it up so all is good and a 11-5 season gets us in the playoffs and hopefully that first playoff win in over a decade.

It was a great game and I was very happy in how Romo played..no INTs, moved outta the pocket VERY well..overall good game I thought. Im happy this week, even better since the Giants lost..again.

Now lets see if the Deadskins can beat the Seagulls..what a game or lack of.

It's Jerry's money tho, so we shouldn't be worrying much about it...........:-). Now, if it was us who was paying these players, it would be a different story. Besides, Roy may pick it up in the next few games, and he should.

I am liking what I see regardless.

WTF happened on Atlanta's last TD? Isn't someone supposed to call time out in that situation? When your opponent comes to the line and you're not quite ready? I'm not sure they'd decided on personnel, much less their defensive formation. I don't care if you're up by 150 ****ing points, that shouldn't happen.

Lot's of good observations and thoughts above. I do agree with the breakdown on the last touchdown and the need for a timeout. That is the "finer points" of performance needed to get that elusive win in the playoffs. NO MENTAL MISTAKES. Still some stupid offsides (both sides of the ball) but improving.

Surprised by Giant's loss last night. Warner is good and is very bright and expreinced, he exposed some flaws in the secondary and the pass rush was not to the usual Giant standard. They could be heading for some hard times but I KNOW they will bounce back to be contenders and hopefully it won't be against the Cowboys.

i believe that if this group of cowboys come to play every week they will be unstopable.n finaly make to the playoffs n win those damn games so they can finaly get that damn monkey off their backs. GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering that myself. But, I was so damn happy with the most of their play, I didn't give it much thought. It looks like a lot of the kinks may have been ironed out, but still a few left to get. A few brain farts such as you mentioned, and needless penalties.

I hope they let Romo be Romo more often, and not keep him handcuffed to just being a drop back passer.

I actually don't think the Giants are as good as the media make them out to be....They should have lost the first game to the 'Boys as well. If the Cowboys had played as good then as they did yesterday, the Giants would have lost.......in my mind (to borrow from Jerry Jones.......lol)

Sorry Sam. No disrespect, but I think they would have.

Its not a coincidence that Dallas rang them up for 30pts and a ton of yds, then the Saints and now the Cards...

Had Dallas been playing Jenkins instead of Scandrick, that game might have been different.

Not to mention the fact that Dallas stacked the run and forced Eli to blow them up.

We will see....

Wasn't Jenkins hurt then? I don't remember.

I'll be honest Shirt, it was darn good to see Romo play a complete game with "NO INT's". Yesterday resembled how he performed on a more consistant basis two seasons ago.
I really liked what I saw from the team in all phases of the game...the question is, can they get on a roll and keep winning?

October 26, 2009  06:27 PM ET

I am definitely not a Cowboys fan but I can admit that the game against the Falcons was the kind of game by which you try to define your season. Every aspect of the game clicked. With Seattle coming to town, there is a very good opportunity to build on that momentum.

Hey Philly...
Indeed it was good to see. That's the $60k question....can they keep it up? If they can get by the next 3 teams, and play as good or better than they did yesterday, I think they can.

But after the Seahawks, you know we have your team up then. No offense, but I think we can beat the Eagles. 'IF' the 'Boys play like they can, and I'm sure they'll be thinking of the 44-6 game, then I believe they will get on that roll.

DeMarcus Ware got his contract extension today too. So, he should be happy.

Hey Keep....
Welcome back. Nah, you need not be a fan of the Cowboys to post here...just be a football fan........:-)

I don't know how good/bad Seattle is, as I haven't seen any of their games, but I have to assume they aren't far removed from last year. But, no team should be overlooked, regardless of record.

Now, if the 'Boys will be consistent. I saw a lot of confidence building yesterday.

Seattle bites this season and Dallas should have no issue going up there and rolling to another 400+yd day and 30+pts...

The Giants and Eagles play each other this week and will create some separation in the standings as well...

I think that if Dallas wins vs Seattle and loses a competitve game at Philly, sitting at 5-3 at that point is not shabby....6-2 after Philly would be really good.

There is no clear cut winner out of the East just yet...including Dallas.

But, for whatever reason...the Giants and Philly defenses are not what they were, which as a Boys fan makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

After watching Philly and Washington last night, I believe, if the Cowboys play as well or better than Sunday, we should be able to handle either of them. And the Giants.

The Redskins, if their offense hadn't of been so erratic, might could have won, but being they now have a offensive play caller, and a defensive play caller, shows how smart their front office is. Jim Zorn, I guess, just stands on the sideline taking up space. Man, what a mess they are.

Their right hand don't know what the left hand is doing, and vice versa.

If they continue to play like that I can't see why thet eventually won't go deep in the playoffs, in fact I'd like to see them win the big one; but the season is a long way from being over. Watching the Eagles last night I said to my brother if they play us like that in two weeks there will be mass suicides all over the city...lol. I don't think the Birds can stop us if the running game gets cranked up, but I have a feeling that defensively we can dominate their offensive line and keep pressure on McNabb...that will hurt their passing game, and with the speed of Jackson and Macklin we need to keep in the dirt. By the way Shirt; the Eagles never have been and never will be my team...lol; I was born and raised here but I'm a Cowboys fan for life.
