I guarantee Mangini didn't start Quinn for that specific reason. He didn't wanna Quinn getting his paper. Hiring Mangini was the worst possible thing the browns could have done. It didn't work the first time around with Belichik, and Romeo Crennel led them to one solid season. The Browns really need to clean house and start off new. I hear Holmgrens looking for an executive spot.

Andersons accuracy, or lack there of, was very evident. It was shameful how far off he was of his targets. Totally embarrassing. Come on "LowCountryBrownsFan", please tell us why Andersen is on the team again!
The Holmgren idea is intriguing, although I think he is overrated. Eight of his 11 years in Seattle, he had 9 or fewer wins, 4 of them, he was under .500. He didn't have a Favre' to carry him is Seattle. Although he did manage to make it to the playoffs in 3 of those 9 win seasons(6 overall).

Holmgren or Cowher (prob would never happen) would be great. Anyone that has proven track record of success in the NFL would be great. If you look at all of the coaches we have had they all have one thing in common: lack of NFL head coach experience.
I ralize that Mangini hasnt even had a year to do anything but he is downright annoying in the way that he manages the team. I could understand if the ends justify the means but the way he tinkers with personnel is disgraceful. We had three second round picks and he spent the first on Robiskie (who never plays and would have probably dropped to our 2nd or third selection in the round), Massaquoi (who shows some promise) and Veikune (who is going to be a great special teamer.

Clowns, Indians, Cavs, tSlowsu.... so much fail... No wonder LeBron wants out!
BTW, the real Browns play in Baltimore and are now called the Ravens. Why the NFL ever gave you another franchise is beyond me. All Cleveland does is fail and you refused to give one of the greatest owners in the history of the NFL a new stadium while the other Cleveland teams were given one. All Art Modell did was invent Monday Night Football for Pete's sake.

wow... why would I suspect any less from someone who declares democrats are traitors?
One of the greatest owners in history? The same guy who drove Paul Brown out of Cleveland? Had not won (or been to a superbowl) while in cleveland over a 30 year period. Modell was offered to be a part of the Gateway project(which created Jacobs and Gund), but wanted to have muncipal stadium upgraded instead. The proposed "sin" tax to improve the stadium passed a few days after they announced the move to Baltimore. BTW go listen to Rush and don't foget your tin foil hat!

For exactly the same reasons that Mangini says that he is--because he can stretch the field. Stats lie. Dropped passes, injuries, poor blocking, non-existant ground game, awful tackling, pathetic play-calling, etc., etc., etc. What would Quinn do differently? This team is a skeleton. There's no meat on the bones, just a rough sketch that Mangini has for where the team is going. It's obvious that there are no playmakers on this team. It's obvious that the Browns offense is far too young and inexperienced, or old and ineffective. It's obvious that they cannot call offensive plays, or that the skill position players are not equipped to open up the playbook farther than the chapter one summary. Do I think that DA has played awful? Yes. do I think that he is still the best option? Yes.
Side note: I know that running backs take a lot of abuse, but why not line Cribbs up at tailback behind Vickers or Lewis and let the man break tackles? Screw the Wild Cat, everyone knows that he is going to run with it anyway. They know what a threat he is on special teams, but they still kick to him, so who cares if they know that he is going to take the hand-off? He's the only guy that teams gameplan around. Make them stop him running the ball, and see if that doesn't free up some receivers. Harrison and Lewis are not scaring anyone.
LowCountryBrownsFan, I agree with you on your 1st point. That is exactly why Quinn was pulled before an informed decision could be made. I do not and probably never will agree that using a perennial mistake maker to run the offense is a good decision. I do think we should hire an "offensive coordinator", as we do not currently have one.
Your idea on how to use Cribbs I think is an excellent one. I also think the guy calling the game Sunday was a blithering idiot. He kept calling for the wildcat/Cribbs where it's effect helping the team has been a game of pluses and minuses. Not the best use of Cribbs talent. His use as a receiver has not been very effective either.

DA may be a guy with all the potential, but never really puts it all together. When Cleveland had playmakers to throw to, DA was good--not great, but good. But I've said it before--he's driving a lemon and trying to make the best of it.
Cribbs is just not a receiver to me. He's fumbled twice after the catch, and just doesn't seem that fluid in his hips to create seperation. I think that he would be more comfortable as a running back, where he is always looking down the field and using his field vision and ability to shed tackles. And he still averages over 7 yards a carry out of the Wild Cat when the defense knows what's coming at them.

this guy is a real gem... Lebron doesn't want out. I suppose he wants out to go to the Knicks (aka starting over again). You can't believe everything you hear on the ESPN rumor mill. The Knicks are grimier than all the Cleveland teams combined.

totally disagree with the DA theory. "he can stretch the field"....That's some BS. Yes, he can throw it far but without accuracy-so what's the point? Both QBs had dropped balls and BQ's stats are still better than DA's (DA has played more games too). If he truly could stretch the field his yardage would refelct it. A real QB could hit a wide open receiver instead of throwing it out of bounds (reference Robiskie vs GB).
DA is not the best we have. BQ was barely given a chance to shine this year so to say that DA is the best option is a bit absurd....should be more like TBD.
To answer your question- Quinn wouldnt be making as many bonehead plays as DA and definitely would not be turning the ball over as much. What's better- a QB that is a turnover machine and has a horrible O coord calling the plays or a 1st rd rookie that QB whom you have never given REAL shot at taking over the team that doesnt turn the ball over and has a bad O coord? Ill take the 1st rd QB who doesnt worsen our already poor excuse for a team.
Stats arent everything but to have that large of a statistical gap (comp %, INTs per game) between DA and Brady says something. DA is not the best we have. The guy plays like a moron. It obviously is irrelevant to say he can stretch the field or that he makes the opposing D respect the run because those categories havent even improved since he has come in.

Our run D might have been a bit better since DA but it had more to do with Jamal getting injured than anything else....(jamal is beat)

There are hundreds of excuses/reasons the Browns' QBs are playing like crap. How about the revolving door of offensive coordinators over the last five years. The Browns have never had one stick around long enough for the team to fully learn a system. We only see what is on the field on Sundays. There is a reason that BQ has not earned the starting role. I hope that it is not the $10.9 million. I'm sure that it comes into play, though, if Cleveland plans on stock-piling draft picks and free agents next year. I think that it is safe to say that BQ is not going to be the QB of the future for this organization. DA is going down the same path. Until there is consistancy in Cleveland, the Browns will continue to be a laughing stock.
It's going to take some time. Look at Cinci this year. The Bengal fans wanted Lewis' head on a platter the last few seasons. Over the past few years the Bengals have put together a pretty solid defense to go with a very good offense. They took their lumps, but they backed up the coach and let him build his team. I had high hopes for this years Browns. I picked them be a .500 football team. Too much Madden football, I guess, where the turnaround of players isn't that big of a deal and the rookies contribute right away. Right now, I think that the U of Cinci could give the Browns a scare. I'm trying to be less frustrated with the current product, so that every bump in the road does not seem like the end of the world, or that Mangini is sub-plotting to destroy the Browns. I hope that they finish the season better than they started it. The schedule gets lighter toward the end, so Ihope that there is something that gives us some hope for what the current administration is doing; otherwise it could be a long Spring/Summer of trying to get another coach run out of Cleveland.

What kind of BS is that? Vince Young and David Carr both have the extact same arm strenght as Derek Anderson....how is that working out for them? Arm strength is only good with you can control it. Being a QB in the NFL isn't about having a rocket arm....its about being a leader, being able to read defenses, able to make changes at the line of scrimmage, being able to put a soft touch on a pass to get it in the right place, being about to look off the secondary and not starring down your intended WR, being able to perform under pressure, and most important........creating TOUCHDOWNS and not field goals.
Derek Anderson is the lowest rated QB in the NFL for a reason. Yes, its the same reason DA was only good enough to be on the practice squad in Baltimore.

they need to get marty look what he did to build the chargers... he could do the same for the browns

I hate to see the browns playing this kind of football. They look like a pee-wee football team out there and it makes me sick to my stomach. I am not sure why mangini is still sticking with D.A. I really wish i knew. The biggest thing I don't understand is what direction he is taking the browns. I am not say that B.Q. is the best answer for the browns but I like him better then D.A. I feel that he gives us the best chance to win and gain a little bit of the respect back. But it is going to be a long winter and spring. Come draft season I am really not sure if we should go for a QB in the first round. We need so much help all the way around. That is my 2 cents.
That's a good point. Both of our Qbs contracts are up after next year so it almost seems inevitable that we draft someone next year or sign a free agent QB. Does anyone know of any QB's that are available next season?
Our offensive playbook is a joke. We run the simplest of plays. I'm moving on to the Cavs as they are the only sports team we have that has a chance of winning.

Vince Young is an idiot and David Carr was plagued with a horrible offensive line for the majority of his career.
I don't think DA or BQ are the quarterbacks of the future. Not in Cleveland. But, that's because their careers have already been wrecked with a plethora of negatives that have surrounded the Browns franchise since its resurgence. That said, if I had to choose between DA or BQ at this point in the season? Yes, I would go with DA because of said arm strength. Sue me.
being a buckeye by birth...its unloyal to bash any ohio team. I have been a loyal die-hard ohio sports fan since i've gotten into sports some 40 yrs ago. Never bad-mouthing the browns, indians, cavs, and/or buckeyes no matter how many times they ripped the heart right out of the body. (i.e.) 95 & 97 indians....the drive & the fumble browns...last years cavs...great year terrible ending....last but not least 2 nat champion title games lost to sec teams. not only in football but basketball as well.
Reading the above comments, its apparent to me that there are some serious browns fans out there and I'm just guessing but i'm sure you follow the cavs, buckeyes ans indians as well. Now that i've led you up to my point here it is..The present browns organization is the team that should have left cleveland. The owner right down to the players have no desire and/or will to win. The increase of ticket prices on the rise each year doesn't support the mediorcre team that takes the field every sunday. What's the old saying....You get what you pay for. I truly believe that Cowher would have no problem coming to cleveland.... if they pursued him in the same manner as other teams...but Lerner knows to get him, he'll have to pay for him...and he can't have that !
I can't rationalize the fact that we are still at the same place we were in 1999... How is it the expantion teams are doing better then ours? Are we the only team that is still rebuilding after 9 years !?
Do we think that the other supposedly disciplinarian coaches out there would tolerate the same old bonehead mistakes & penalties week after week. How many times do we have to hear we need to execute better...b4 we realize its just not going to happen ?
Quinn / anderson ther's no difference.. they're one and the same.
I refuse to watch the same pathetic stye of play week after week. Am I the only one that finds it repulsive that our only win came about by way of 2 field goals to 1.
I will continue to love buckeye sports.....but I refuse to watch or even attend another browns game until the organization puts thier hearts into as the fans have done for many years.
Am I a disloyal fan ????? No, just a very fed up one.
Oh.....democrats are traitors.....you talk about ohio teams like you know them so well....you know nothing......i can take the trash-talking when it comes from an individual that has earned the right to trash talk...earlier it was mentioned something about you and the knicks...the knicks and yankees have choked in the past...don't hear you mentioning anything bout that.
