NFL  > Chicago Bears  > When will the season end..

I don't know where to start, the Bears are almost beyond short term rebuilding. If there is such a thing..

Im done with the Cutler honeymoon, I drank up that kool aid when Angelo preached a franchise quarterback. Now, I just wish the Bears still had draft picks. The Bears could have truly set themselves up for success had they not traded for Cutler. In the 2009 Draft they could have grabbed Oher, thus giving them two great tackles and a foundation to build upon. Coming into the 2010 Draft they could have gone for a QB to develop or continue to build a powerful O-Line.

Now..they've got no 1st or 2nd round picks. It'd be great if the Bears had drafted Cutler, but no..they had to sacrifice at least two years to get him. He's a great talent..but Denver is showing what a great O-Line can do for a team. Not to mention their defense, which Chicago also needs to rebuild. Right now..there is one play maker and thats Briggs.

I dunno, maybe I'm just shell shocked after the Cinncy game..But I'm really starting to realize how bad the Bears have screwed up. Not to mention Lovie and his staff should be gone without question, along with Angelo.

I have to agree with you there, Hammered.

After living through three consecutive 5-11 seasons with the Cowboys, getting blasted 44-6 with a playoff spot on the line last year, amongst other things throughout the years, it can get tough.

Hang in there, itsatrap.

Chill out man, plenty of more football to be played and plenty of opportunities to watch Cutler throw INTs.

Its time to fire Lovie and Jerry Angelo they stick to their Tampa 2 roots to much look at all the garbage draft picks the selected looking for the next Derrick Brook, Warren Sapp, and John Lynch im sick of the whole ordeal. Drafting their systems guys and signing Lovie's guys Adam Archeuleta, Timo Pisasoma, and Orlando Pace over football players whom have a nasty side . Im counting the days till Lovie and Jerry are gone from Chicago. As i recall Chicago is a cold weather city where size and strength beats speed and finesse. I love the Chicago Bears but not the Tampa Bears !!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I couldn't agree more. Tampa 2 seems almost outdated at this point. Most defenses have converted to 3-4, which I expect the bears to do over this off-season.

Wow. All of the available **** sandwiches to eat on the Bears' roster and you go for the one bright shining light for the Chicago Bears. You took the name of Jay in vain. Tsk tsk. Man, if you think Jay Cutler is one of the Bears problems then your perception of football is somewhat askew. Cutler is one of the finest QBs in the league bar none, big, strong, mobile, accurate ... and you want two draft picks back ? Put the Ritalin down dude ....

And to the "Fire Lovie" homers .... we can't afford to.

Shell shocked is the correct term itsatrap, I agree with Irish Cutler isn't the problem. He was forced to play from behind and the offense was made one dimensional after falling behind by 21 points and mistakes were made.

I would start with the secondary on Defense, there have been plenty of warnings that this was a major problem, but they hadn't been heeded entering Sunday. Now it's time to do something about the wretched secondary play. The reason is a complete breakdown in the playmaking ability of the secondary. The safeties seem to have hit a wall -- from Kevin Payne to Al Afalava to Danieal Manning -- and the cornerbacks aren't much better. Charles Tillman is a proven professional, but Zack Bowman has been more fallacy than truth. Nathan Vasher might get a look at free safety. What about Corey Graham? Whither Craig Steltz? Do any of these guys have an idea of what they're doing? If it takes personnel changes, fine. If it takes scheme alteration, so be it. Scrap the cover-2 on third down if it means getting guys up on receivers, jamming at the line and jumping routes. There isn't much aggression in the secondary, especially on third down. Could it be that playing guys 30 yards deep is putting them on their heels instead of getting them going downhill with a head of steam?

Then there is the O-Line on the offensive side of the ball, they cannot sustain their pass blocks allowing pressure to get to Cutler using only a four man front, and they are not opening up running lanes. Turner is taking the heat for this but I for one cannot lay blame on Turner due to how ineffective the O-Line is, any O-Coordinator would have trouble calling plays when the O-Line is as bad as the Bears have been. Turner has tried calling plays that most say are conservative but the O-Line dictates the play calling. How do you try and throw the ball downfield when the Line isn't allowing enough time for the plays to develop downfield, and the results are sacks and hurried throws which translates into Interceptions.

I do, football is a team sport. It doesn't matter who your quarterback is, that is, if you have a good system and a good supporting cast. Look at Denver, they have a good not great quarterback, but McDaniels system plays to his strengths and their team has few weaknesses. The Bears system doesn't match Cutler, though no quarterbacks match Ron Turner's system. Still, they basically have to rebuild with fewer draft picks. Yes their foundation to build on (Cutler) is better, but they're missing more pieces due to the lack of Draft picks.

I criticize Turner because he doesn't adapt..yes the line is bad, but he doesn't run plays that compensate. Basically every first down its a pass, which Cutler is forced to check down. Then Turner follows that with a run up the gut. And to top it off, Turner either calls draw or screen on 3 and 6.

Oh and I didn't say Cutler isn't talented, "It'd be great if the Bears had drafted Cutler, but no..they had to sacrifice at least two years to get him. He's a great talent.." Its the fact of what they gave up, and if you don't realize that football is won by the line..maybe you're "perception of football" is askew. The Bears can recover, but it will take more time and they prolly need a new GM who can draft in the first round. I've calmed somewhat, Cutler is the future..I just don't want to have to wait 2-3 years for a good Bears team.

And sidenote..the Defense needs help too, as afore mentioned Tampa 2 is outdated and the key Bears players are either injured (Harris) or aging (Urlacher). You need a pass rush for Tampa 2 and you need someone to cover deep middle..Bears will have to fix both of those positions, for the Tampa 2 to have a future beyond next this or next year.

Source: Beekman to start for Bears

The Chicago Bears will start Josh Beekman at left guard in place of Frank Omiyale Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, according to a source familiar with the situation.

It's about time the Bears make this move, in my eyes Beekman outplayed Omiyale during training camp and I was shocked when it was announced Omiyale would start over Beekman. It makes you wonder sometimes if money starts before talent does.

Frank Omiyale, Salary: $526,240.

Josh Beekman, Salary: $374,800.

Itsatrap...The season still has some milage to go. The problem you are having is you and every Bears fan felt that Cutler was the final piece of the puzzle for your team to go places. I tried to tell the Bears nation that Cutler was not going to make much of a difference. The Bears defense was not good last year and nothing was done about it this last off season with the exception of Lovie calling the defensive plays, and we all saw how well that has worked...45 points to Cincy. Cutler was not the problem in that game or this season...he is really a non factor and he was a non factor in Denver as well. Every game this year, Cutler has done something to put his defense in a bad or tight spot. It only takes a couple of bad throws to turn a tight game into a blowout, and Cutler is prone to making those bad or dumb throws. However, the Bears defense is worse than last year's edition...so it will probably get worse before it gets much better. The real problem is Chicago's climate is not condusive to "out score 'em football." Without a defense, the Bears are going to find it hard to win more than 5 more games this year. On the brighter side, this works out well for the Broncos, who have the Bears 2010 first round pick. 8-8 Bears record will give the Broncos the 12th to 15th pick. Life is good.

Not really, look at the Broncos. Orton is a good quarterback, but the system caters to his strengths and he plays smart. Look how Matt Cassel, a career back up, did in New England last year. Maybe you should have read the context of what you're quoting...

Its nice to see Beekman getting the start, he played well last year and all through trainning camp outplayed Omiyale. Now they just need to move Williams to LT and Shaffer to RT...Oh and I saw Hillenmeyer will return to MLB, so I guess its assumed Roach will move to strong side.
